TESTIMONY was recorded and mixed by Leslie Ann Jones and Dann Thompson, with Judy Kirschner (assistant engineer) on The Scoring Stage at Skywalker Sound, a Lucasfilm, Ltd. company, Marin County, CA. SFGMC Sings In Solidarity #WeAreOrlando

04:36
This past weekend's tragic events in Orlando, Florida have absolutely shaken us to our core. This senseless act of violence, targeted specifically at the LGBTQ+ community, is, quite simply, unacceptable. It is a wake-up call to complacency and a painful reminder that the fight for equality is not over. And while we continue to face violence for simply being who we are, living our authentic lives, we also come together to show strength as a community, standing up against hatred and intolerance and spreading hope, pride and love. This past Sunday, we gathered with thousands in the Castro for a candlelight vigil to collectively mourn those we lost at the Pulse nightclub. We were joined by community leaders, local activists and elected officials who came to offer thoughts, prayers and challenges to take a stand. But when the words fail us, when there's nothing more to say, that's when we sing. Last night, we taped this video to show our solidarity with our brothers and sisters in Orlando. We are led by our Artistic Director, Dr. Timothy Seelig. "Dedication" Music by Richard Burchard Text by Mark Twain, adapted from a poem by Robert Richardson Warm summer sun, shine brightly here, Warm Southern wind, blow softly here, Green sod above, lie light, lie light, Good night, dear heart; good night, good night. We raise our voices to show our support - for the lives lost, for those injured, for the selfless people who have poured out as first responders, who have provided shelter and counseling, for those who have rallied their communities. We remember those killed and we fight for justice to remind the world that we as LGBTQ+ people are people, that we must be seen, and that our light continues to shine, unequivocally. Shine brightly here. The San Francisco Gay Men's Chorus Dr. Timothy Seelig, Artistic Director

SFGMC - "Amazing Grace" #VegasStrong

02:55
All too often, we find ourselves at a rehearsal coping with grief caused by tragedy and turmoil in our world. We find solace in being a part of a loving community and singing together. We chose a portion of this beautiful arrangement of "Amazing Grace" in the hopes of sharing thoughts of Grace for those lost and sending them on their way with all of the love we have. Music heals. Hopefully, each of us will find a moment of beauty in the face of this difficult time. San Francisco Gay Men's Chorus: Family

06:20
The San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus is a story in itself. A big story almost 40 years in the making. But the real story is told in one life at a time — touched and changed by the music. It begins with just one singer and his own experience of brotherhood. The connection then grows from that small seed as it finally results in the beautiful unfolding of our mission: community, compassion and activism. And all of that, folded into and told through the power of music. It is a powerful tale, to be sure. Hopefully, you will experience that just by watching this part of our story. 34 Years Later, Harvey Milk's Legacy Lives On

03:44
The San Francisco Gay Men's Chorus honors the 34th Anniversary of Harvey Milk's and George Moscone's assassination, at a memorial on the steps of City Hall and a candlelight vigil march to the Castro District, where Harvey Milk operated his Castro Camera shop. One of the chorus' founding singers, Robert Rufo, recounts the chorus' first public appearance, which was at the candlelight vigil on the night when Harvey Milk was assassinated with gunshot to his head. The chorus performed "Thou Lord Our Refuge" that night, and current chorus singer Edwin Morales has since re-arranged the song for the chorus' Unplugged concert earlier in 2012, which is the soundtrack for this video. Appearing in the video from the memorial service in front of City Hall were Supervisor Scott Weiner, Anne Kronenberg, Mayor Ed Lee, former Mayor Willie Brown, Jonathan Moscone and Stuart Milk. The chorus in June 2013 will be performing a landmark concert called Harvey Milk 2013; more information can be found at http://www.sfgmc.org/milk2013 Where to find SFGMC: Facebook - http://www.facebook.com/SFGMC Twitter - http://www.twitter.com/SFGMC

SFGMC - The Lavender Pen Tour (Photo Essay)

07:51
Photos by Dave Earl. This October, the San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus (SFGMC) and Oakland Interfaith Gospel Choir (OIGC) traveled to five states in the Deep South for a landmark tour, spreading their message and mission through music. The two groups performed 5 anchor concerts in major venues, as well as over 25 smaller performances in churches, town halls, college campuses, and interfaith services. With a divisive political climate in the United States, marked by an increase in dangerous and hostile rhetoric against the LGBTQ and other marginalized communities after the presidential election of November 2016, SFGMC decided to cancel its plans for a major international tour celebrating its 40th Season to focus on local communities instead. The Chorus wanted to bring its music on the road to promote universal equality and inclusiveness, and the value in treating all individuals – irrespective of differences – with dignity. Even though it lasted only a week, the Lavender Pen Tour was life-changing for everyone involved, and brought together two major Bay Area performing arts groups and created a family that will live on for decades to come.

New Year's Carol (World AIDS Day 2015)

06:29
For 2015's World AIDS Day, we dedicate this to the 300+ singers who no longer physically grace our stage, but in spirit sing with us, nonetheless. New Year’s Carol Music by Ola Gjeilo Text by Charles Anthony Silvestri Commissioned and performed by the San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus Lyrics After all the gifts have been opened, After the candles all have burned down, After the warmth comes the chill of the season; After the carols, the winter wind’s sound. After all our friends have departed, After the tinsel is all put away, That is the time to reflect and remember— The gifts of the season last more than one day. The wheel of the year keeps turning, returning; The sun, ever-dancing, shall lengthen the day. Soon will the frostbite give way to the flower; Under the snow waits the promise of May. We hold in our hearts the joys of this season, Warming our spirits as bitter winds blow; Bringing to mind our soul, all that matters; And that which is hollow, in faith letting go.  SFGMC On The Web: Web: http://www.sfgmc.org Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/sfgmc Twitter: http://www.twitter.com/sfgmc YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/user/SFGMCvideo SoundCloud: http://www.soundcloud.com/sfgmc Instagram: http://www.instagram.com/sfgmc

It Gets Better, from San Francisco Gay Men's Chorus

12:16
http://www.sfgmc.org Members of the San Francisco Gay Men's Chorus talk about their experiences growing up in high school and how life got better for them afterward. The video was inspired by the "It Gets Better" project started by Dan Savage in response to the anti-gay bullying and harassment that LGBT teenagers face at their schools, sometimes resulting in suicide. At the end of the video, the Chorus sings "Irish Blessing" in honor and memory of those who left us far too soon.
