Built to Last

09:30
This Siebe Gorman diving helmet was made in 1882, it had a working life until 1934 when it was lost on a shipwreck. In 2001 it was recovered from 56m of water off Whitby, in July 2009 with the help of HDS and SSAC it dived again! It's made of brass copper and glass, it wasn't serviced and I survived! Built to Last?

Dive on the British Submarine HMS E49 Balta Sound, Unst, Shetland.

21:36
This site was dived from the MV Hatherleigh on her 2012 Shetland Expedition out of Scarborough by members of Scarborough Sub Aqua Club. This was a 5am dive on Saturday 14th July 2012. The viz was exceptional and according to local fishermen this was due to the run of northerly winds experienced in the area. These winds apparently bring clean water south which is good news for divers but bad news for fishermen (the fish can see the nets coming!). The site was sheltered from the northerly swell and we came alongside in Balta where we received a warm reception from locals again. After diving this site we dived Outstack, Vee Skerries and then the Oceanic site followed by the Braer Site. All excellent diving.

The North Sea

15:28
A15min video that takes you into the depths of the North Sea to meet some of the spectacular wildlife that lives just beyond our shores. You will be amazed at some of the colours and you could be forgiven for thinking some of the creatures were from tropical waters. The habitats where these animals live are still under threat from mans activities and the Wildlife Trusts are campaigning to have a comprehensive set of conservation zones established in order to kick start recovery before it is too late. Timberella

10:00
A bunch of mates who dive together off Whitby find a bell on a trawler called "Harrier" that was scuttled by a German U-Boat in WW1. The bell is "concreted" into the wreck with only the rim showing. It takes a number of dives to 70m to recover it and in late October 2007 they were running out of time! Tim who found the bell was "leg pulled" about his inability to recover it and was described by some ( - all right, everyone) as a "fairy", hence the title of the video.

Dive on the Factory Ship Tomalina

07:02
Wrecked off Noupe Point, Westray, Northern Isles Orkney. This is an incredible wreck, it is perfectly fitted into its very own rock gulley. You can touch the gulley sides from the gunwale of the wreck. This is the north eastern most point of the Orkneys and fully open to the Atlantic weather. Surface conditions here are very challenging and surge through the gulley makes filming quite difficult. A seal can be seen in the distance but unfortunately it wasn't brave enough to come close until the last pair of divers went in. Lots of anemones and sea squirts on the gulley walls. A fantastic dive and one I highly recommend!!

Carry On Up The Tyne

36:29
This is the film of an expedition on the Hatherleigh out of Scarborough in 2010. We intended to dive shipwrecks off Newcastle but the weather determined that it turned into a weekend in Newcastle in a dock. The film was never properly finished as my way of life imploded in 2010 and I had other pressing things to occupy me. I have re-visited it now because our beloved skipper Terry Bunker sailed away for the last time earlier this week. I have dedicated this film to him. The film is pretty raucous at times - hence the title, but along the way you will see Terry's skill and professionalism. He was particularly good at rowing with a petrol can. The film is meant for the people on the trip and the people who knew Terry. Everyone else will probably be bored stiff by it. It has been hastily finished and could do with a bit more trimming but I'm sure you won't mind.

Inside Out North Sea U-Boats

08:50
Andy Jackson and Carl Racey and team found the last two WW1 missing U-Boats off the Yorkshire Coast in one weekend after a search that had lasted more than 8 years. It was not known until the discovery was made that both subs had come to grief in the same British mine field and that they layed within half a mile of each other off Robin Hoods Bay. The BBC put a short piece together for the National version of Inside Out in 2004 which tells the story and takes the pair to Cuxhaven in Germany to report the finds
