Michael Brecker (African Skies) Solo performance

06:16
Recorded in Frankfurt Germany on 10/26/02 as a solo performance. What's missing at the beginning of the clip is Michael explaining to the audience of his inspiration for writing this tune from a trip he took to Africa 10 years earlier. While taking a shower before the gig, he was thinking how he would perform it with no rhythm section. Although not a big fan of asking people to clap (since it's too show business) he thought he would make an exception. So he asked to audience to clap in 4 while in plays in 6. Enjoy

An extrodinary program of holiday music featuring special guest appearances and musical contributions by Vanessa Williams, Michael McDonald, David Sanborn, and introducing the artistry of Rob Mathes. Release date 1998. Rob Mathes is right when he describes David's sound as a unique voice and that is undeniably recognizable within 2 notes. David is often immitated but never duplicated. If you're not a fan, you will be after this virtuoso performance in which David sings thru his horn with nothing more than expression and feeling. Enjoy
