Ruger SR9 Field Strip and Cautionary Note

03:12
How to disassemble and reassemble a Ruger SR9. The fire control housing pin fell out on me when I did this the first time. My advice is if any of the frame pins fall out during cleaning, stop immediately and call Ruger. When this happened to me Ruger was great and arranged for shipment back to the factory for the handgun to be fixed. If I had called before trying to get the pin back in things might have been easier. Either way, Ruger customer service was great. Thanks Ruger. Also check out Ruger SR9 Striker and Magazine Disconnect Removal http://youtu.be/8dHXND_9-bE

Havalon Piranta Skinning Knife

03:48
These small knives from Havalon are just the thing for skinning and other light duty tasks when hunting. I have used the Piranta Edge for 2 years and find it to be very useful when skinning a deer. Both knives hold a scalpel blade, which is replaced when it gets dull. The Piranta Edge uses a #60 blade (~2.5 inches). The Tracer-22, a smaller version of the same knife, accepts either the smaller #22 scalpel blade (~1.25 inches) or the larger #60. 3-2-1 Ribs on a Traeger

10:02
World class baby back ribs from a Traeger (or Louisiana grill). Slow cooking baby back ribs on a Traeger. These are the absolute best. Known as 3-2-1 (or 321) ribs, because of the hours involved in each step of cooking. This is a demonstration video showing how you can make fall off the bone ribs using this method. Caution: your favorite rib house can't compete with this. BBQ Ribs, Secrets and Tips: http://youtu.be/efx5cNgrc8s PITFALLS, watch out for the following: 1) Do not let the ribs dry out during the smoke period, keep the top moist using the apple juice. 2) Do not push the fail wrap against the top of the ribs. The foil packet must be air tight, but do not smash the foil into the top of the ribs. Pressing the foil against the top of the ribs will dry them out. 3) To much smoke time after removing the ribs from the foil. This is especially true if no bbq sauce is used. The ribs can dry out very easily during this last step. Only cook long enough to dry them after steaming, not over dry them before eating. Mosin Nagant Scope Base Install Scout Style

05:11
Hot to install a UTG scope mount fits the Mosin-Nagant rear sight dovetail. It is inexpensive and easy. Add a red dot or a scout scope and the setup becomes an inexpensive scout style rifle. The mount is $10. Add a BSA Edge 2x20 pistol/scout scope or a Bushnell TRS-25 and get a $100 Mosin-Nagant scout conversion. Drilling a small hole (dimple, divot) into the top of the dovetail for the set screw to fit into will help keep the base from shifting. Easier to install (and somewhat harder to undo) is some JB weld under and in front of the mount to keep things from shifting around. If you go this route then use some break cleaner to degrease before applying the JB weld. Heat (e.g. propane torch or soldering gun) will break the epoxy weld if you ever want to take it off. Wrap Meat w Butcher Paper, How To

02:21
Demonstration of how to wrap meet with Butcher Paper (Freezer Paper). This is fast and easy, and it stores the meat well in the freezer. Pre-cut the pieces of paper. Then wrap from one corner diagonally across the paper to the opposite corner, tucking in the sides as you go. Wrap the paper tightly. Use two pieces of paper per package. This gives you a nice, neat package. One piece of tape holds the corner down. The same technique can be used when boxing up personal belongings for storage, mailing, or moving. I have seen professional movers do this with everything from nick knacks to loose items in drawers. Use unprinted newsprint. No tape required. The paper pads the items, and contains them in the box. Fast and easy. You might also like "Save Money on Chicken Breast, at least 50%" http://youtu.be/L_phiVqWE9g

I took the Leupold CDS 4.5-14x40 out for the first time during the 2012 deer season. Awesome scope. I loved being able to adjust the range on the fly. Shooting Chrony Alpha Master Review

06:12
Shooting Chrony vs. Oehler 35P Chronograph. 20 shots of 223 Remington. 20 shots of 5.56x45 NATO. Each shot is measured by both chronographs and compared on a shot-by-shot basis. The velocity data is presented and analyzed. Unbox and setup..........................0:15 Data collection............................ 2:18 Velocity results and comparison....3:29 The Oehler 35P is THE chronograph, and demands a premium price. The Shooting Chrony, Alpha Master is an entry level chronograph, which did very well in the test. Velocity measurements were good, standard deviation was good (poor chronographs produce more variation), and every shot was recorded without worry. Some chronographs can be difficult to setup and use, this one was not. At less than 25% of the cost of the Oehler, the Shooting Chrony did great and I won't be replacing it any time soon. Also, a little on how a chronograph works. Special thanks to my friend who lent the use of his very nice Oehler 35P for this video.

05:38
Thoughts on what scope to put on a Ruger Gunsite Scout Rifle. A traditional scope is good, but the bell on the front objective can be promblematic. A intermediate eye relief (IER) scout scope is also a good choice but is lower magnification and mounted forward of the receiver, which is different but not bad. The scout scope has a pair of Leupold PWR rings, medium, 1-inch.

Low Recoil Rifles and Ammo

16:46
Cartridges and ammo that won't beat you up. This video goes over what qualifies as low recoil, the cartridges that are low recoil, recoil from different chambering, how to reduce recoil with either gun modifications or ammunition selection. It doesn't take much time hanging out in a gun store to find a person who doesn't know much about rifle making uninformed decisions on recoil. My first rifle was a 300 Win Mag. I tried to get some info on how to reduce the recoil loads and came up short. I even called a Idaho based bullet company and got an answer something like "sorry kid, it is a 300..." There was a guy buying 30-06 ammo who had no clue about what he needed. The store clerk offered up a box of 150gr ammo, and then a box of 220gr ammo (ouch). Another time there was a guy looking for a hunting rifle. He looked in the gun catalog they had at the store and asked about a 300 Rem Ultra Mag. I got the impression he didn't know what that rifle would do to him. Hope this helps the next person who gets more than they asked for in a hunting rifle. Getting Started Rifle Shooting

06:58
My thoughts on what to buy when you start to shoot rifles. Always get a 22, either in a bolt gun or a semi-auto. Savage bolt actions are good. The Ruger 10/22 is a classic and can be used as a platform for a custom gun in the future.. 22 ammo is inexpensive and lets you shoot a lot. Learn the basics on a small gun and then move up to the centerfire stuff. Once you go centerfire, I suggest a first a 223 Rem. Again, this is because it is less expensive to shoot than the other centerfire cartridges. Learn to shoot the relatively bigger 223 and then move on to bigger and more powerfull stuff if you still want to keep going. 3 Rifles Every Rifleman Should Have http://youtu.be/nJuZSiF_F9c Basic Hunting Rifle Setup http://youtu.be/RreXrIRVnck

Ruger SR9 Rear Sight Adjustment Windage SR40 SR45

07:20
Rear sight windage adjustment. This video is specific to Ruger SR9/SR40/SR45, but can also be applied to any rear sight that needs to be adjusted by drifting the sight. Tools Needed: 5/64 Allen Wrench Punch (1/4 inch, 3/8 inch, larger than smaller) Ball Peen Hammer A rest (piece of wood, modeling clay wrapped in plastic wrap, something solid) Loosen the set screw. Shoot 3-5 shots at a small aim point on a target. Gently tap the rear sight in the direction you want to move the shots. Go slow. Shoot and repeat as necessary. When you are on target tighten the set screw. If you decide to move the front sight (and I did not try this and can't recommend it) then move the sight in the direction the shots are falling (opposite of the rear sight adjustment).

Ruger Gunsite Scout 200 yards

02:29
The Ruger Gunsite Scout delivers at 200 yards. The load was a 168gr Nosler CC, Varget, and a mixed bag of 308 range brass. The GSR provides real world, practical accuracy out of the box giving a 6.5 inch group at least 200 yards. The short barrel and relatively low magnification scout scope are no handicap. I am confident that this rifle can be deployed to the field an be effective beyond 200 yards. This rifle delivers. The rifle has Leupold FX-II IER scout scope with 2.5 power magnification. It is "out of the box" with no modifications. The magazine disconnect is a safety feature, which happens to annoy some shooters. I didn't really care for the idea at first. If you shoot USPSA is really gets in the way. At the risk of alienating some buyers, Ruger includes this feature to try and make the pistol a little more incident-proof. With the magazine out, the shooter can remove a round from the chamber with a safety engaged the entire time. Think about the Ruger M77 MkII/Hawkeye rifle, which has a 3-position safety. First position: fire. Second position: safe with the bolt unlocked. Third position: on safe, bolt locked, ready to hunt. The second position allows the shooter to unload the rifle with a safety still engaged. Think about the Remington 700 safety and claims that the gun can fire when the safety is released when the gun is being unloaded. The same safe-unloading principle applies to the Ruger SR series of gun when the magazine disconnect is included in the picture. The shooter can unload the gun with a safety engaged the entire time. This is true even when removing a round from the chamber. Ruger is big on safety. That is a win for everyone. The consumer is safe, which makes us happy. Ruger won't be the target of safety related law suits, which makes them happy.
