Cadbury's Brand Story

05:56
You remember the gorilla impersonating Phil Collins and playing drums? Well, one Cadbury characteristic is that when it sinks its teeth into a good advertising concept, it will milk it dry. That's always been the case. Not so much in the nineteenth century, when the brand was founded at Bourneville in England by a Quaker. But since the 1930s, when it found its chocolate-and-milk-based slogan, and especially from the 1950s, when the brand really began advertising. Here is the Cadbury saga. Giorgio Armani Documentary - Success Story

09:54
http://www.evancarmichael.com/support/ - SUPPORT ME :) Like this video? Please give it a thumbs up below and/or leave a comment - Thank you!!! My name is Evan Carmichael and I believe that the fastest and most effective way to build a business is to model the strategies of people who have already done what you're trying to do. I call it Modeling the Masters. My last post with almost 8,000 views was 3 Success Lessons from the Twitter Founders. Today we're going to take a closer look at how a young man from a war-torn country grew from poverty to becoming one of the top fashion designers in the world. This is the story of preeminent fashion designer Giorgio Armani and the top 3 lessons that you can learn from his success. "Remain true to yourself and your philosophy. Changing in the face of adversity will in fact diminish your credibility with your customers." - Giorgio Armani Giorgio Armani (born July 11, 1934) grew up in the small northern Italian town of Piacenza. Armani grew up in a family of five that was hard working, but never had too much money to go around. His childhood was not an easy one. The realities of the Second World War in which Italy was caught at the time, were all too apparent to the young Armani. After losing two young friends to a war bomb, Armani and his sister also became the target of machine gun fire from an overhead plane. However, Armani and his family survived the War and relocated to Milan. It was a city decidedly marked by class division, and one in which Armani's parents struggled to rebuild their lives. They found it hard to find their footing in this much bigger and tougher city than their little town of Piacenza. And so, he enrolled in the medical school at the University of Bologna, where he studied for two years to become a doctor. However, when he discovered that the sight of blood made him weak, Armani knew that line of work was not for him. In 1953, Armani was called to fulfill his military obligations, which he accepted eagerly as a chance to clear his head and gain new direction in his life. For all of his experience, Armani was assigned to the infirmary. However, he quickly grew bored with his prospects and realized that war life was not the romantic notion he had seen in the movies. He took a short break from the service and took a trip to Milan that would forever change his life. That was where he met a friend of his who happened to work at La Rinascente, Milan's largest department store, and who would give him his first break into the fashion industry. After the meeting, Armani said he had become a believer in destiny. That destiny has made him known for his classically tailored, sleek power suits and clean, high quality fabrics that everyone from the who's who of Hollywood to the bankers on Wall Street have fallen in love with. Now, Giorgio Armani S.p.A. has over $1.5 billion in revenue and a retail empire that extends to more than 35 countries. Action Item #1: Stick to Your Vision Action Item #2: Stretch Your Brand Action Item #3: Follow Your Conscience True Story Armani has designed clothing for some of the most influential people on the planet, but, according to Armani himself, some of his proudest designs were for Princess Charlene of Monaco. He has been clothing her since she first wore one of his pieces in 2008 at the Olympic Games in Beijing. He spoke to Vogue magazine about designing her wedding gown and believes Princess Charlene "knows how to wear my creations with nonchalance and confidence of youth." Getting to the point where royalty requests a specific designers clothing is considered the pinnacle of a designer's career, but Armani continues to challenge the market and re-invent his designs, which was shown in his design for Princess Charlene's wedding dress. According to Armani, "I felt the new design was appropriate given that there would inevitably be comparisons with Princess Grace, and though such comparisons are of course a sign of admiration, each person has their own individual and unique style, and style is an expression of the times." He goes on to say it was one of greatest creations. Quotes "In this business you can't have a destination, an arrival point. Otherwise your competitors will overtake you, or you become complacent." "The long and short of it for me is that the entrepreneur is the one who at the end decides yes or no and I like that even though it's a lot of responsibility." "I supposed it would have been great to invent something as classic and enduring as the tuxedo. But if I was collecting royalties, I wish I'd invented the corkscrew." What Do You Think? Do you keep your vision sharpened? Do you continually stretch your brand and expand your reach? Are you following your conscience? Tell me what you think by leaving a message below.

Build a Brand | Ragged Mountain Success Story

02:11
Build a Brand | http://www.blog.marshallstrategy.com A client of ours had bought a ski resort 90 miles north of Boston. The resort was a little old and tired, and the mountain itself was small, with few advanced runs and not the best snow. We recommended that Ragged Mountain position itself as a family camp, providing family-focused skiing, lake and indoor-outdoor activities, all year round. This promise, at a good value, met the needs of young families in Boston and surrounding areas in ways that the bigger luxury resorts could not, providing an exciting new opportunity for family vacations. In working with what they had, Ragged Mountain Resort became a highly desirable, convenient and appropriate family vacation destination, summer and winter. Marketing - Branding - Advertising Lessons From The Harry Potter Brand Story

05:12
http://www.newageeconomy.com presents marketing and branding lessons we can take away from the Harry Potter brand story. Harry Potter is without doubt among the most noteworthy brand stories of late years. It is a regal brand story, a magical brand story and a many sided brand story. Why are consumers so over-enthusiastic when they hear the brand name - Harry Potter ? Why do the Harry Potter stories appeal to grown-ups and youngsters alike ? Marketing and Advertising is mystical as we still don't understand how it works. Maybe...we can take a few pointers from the Harry Potter brand story.

Story Wars: Jonah Sachs for the Future of StoryTelling 2012

08:29
See the full playlist of FoST Films here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLs6Vd3jEmIsv4gOD2VT-t08MkfUZRSuA9&feature=view_all The story wars are being waged all around us. They are the battles fought by companies, brands, causes, public figures, and individuals to be heard above the unprecedented noise of the post-broadcast, social-media-dominated era. Today, most brand messages and mass appeals for causes are drowned out before they even reach us. But a few consistently break through the din, using the only tool that has ever moved minds and changed behavior—great stories. With insights from mythology, advertising history, evolutionary biology, and psychology, viral storyteller and advertising expert Jonah Sachs explores how social media tools are driving a return to oral tradition, in which stories that matter—in short, those with timeless themes and values—rise above the fray. In today's media environment, marketers have become the most potent storytellers and mythmakers, and they have to work more closely than ever with audiences to create deeper meaning and stronger partnerships in building a better world. Story Wars is a call to arms for business communicators to cast aside broken traditions and join a revolution to build the iconic brands of the future. And it offers proof that success in the post-broadcast era doesn't come just from telling great stories, but from learning to live them.

"The Story of Storytelling" by MSL London

02:26
Let's start with why stories matter. To understand why storytelling is important to you, your company, your brands or your corporate reputation today, we need to go back a bit. The origin of the importance of stories lies in their power to make sense of the world for ancient man. The most engaging Storytellers attracted the biggest and most attentive audiences. These "prophets" began to assume positions of authority, giving rise to priests, judges and rulers, and -- eventually - the popularity of the BBC, Google and the world's largest repository of personal stories, Facebook. Neurological research shows that our brains, despite evolution, still look for the story to make sense of information today. In fact, in the landmark Heider & Simmel study, people interpreted a simple animation involving 2 triangles, a circle and a square as a torrid tale of love, promiscuity and domestic violence. Ideas conveyed in story form especially visual stories, versus concepts explained with logic and analysis, naturally imprint themselves into the brain faster. Stories are also universal, crossing boundaries of culture, language, gender and age. They're told and retold, building and preserving a group's sense of community, establishing emotional connections and creating a shared sense of purpose. In an age of ever increasing noise, in which we send a billion tweets a week, read around 10 megabytes of material a day, hear 400 meg, and see 1 meg of information every second, attention is worth more than ever before. And nothing holds attention like a great story. Storytelling has been a part of MSLGroup's DNA since we launched our global brand back in 2010. But a lot has happened in the intervening years. Our increasingly sophisticated approach to corporate and brand storytelling has taken us in new and exciting directions. So back in March we saw an opportunity to take everything that we've learnt and experienced and use it to create an overarching approach to Storytelling that is designed to make our clients expert storytellers and make our client teams expert story strategists, developers and editors. Find our overarching approach to Storytelling here: http://slidesha.re/TbsP69.

Stephen Colbert: "America Again: Re-Becoming the Greatness We Never Weren't" | Talks at Google

59:27
The uncut interview of Stephen Colbert's visit to Google's New York office. You can find Stephen's book on Google Play here: http://goo.gl/Jyujo . America Again: Re-Becoming the Greatness We Never Weren't is more of a coffee-table book, with large color pictures, and chapter photos that require the use of included 3-D glasses. It falls somewhere between I Am America and the Daily Show faux-textbooks America (The Book) and Earth (The Book), which used that organizing principle to their advantage. The premise follows the many apocalyptic views of the past four years, claiming America has gone off the rails and completely lost its way, and that only this book offers the true path to restore America's greatness. Which was never really gone, because it's America. The best idea America Again mocks is the one contained in its title. In particular, it skewers Newt Gingrich's 2011 book A Nation Like No Other, which claimed, "America's exceptional greatness is not based on that fact that we are the most powerful, most prosperous—and most generous—nation on earth. Rather, those things are the result of American Exceptionalism." That is one preposterously arrogant whopper, which America Again exploits as an illogical chicken/egg position. The subtle difference between a beneficial amount of pride and the unchecked belief in exceptionalism is ripe for mockery. Stephen Colbert has been playing Stephen T. Colbert since 2005. In those seven years, he's built an impressive mythology to his character, a funhouse mirror held up to shame all other egomaniacal pundits for their hubris. But while the shtick is still reliably funny on television, it doesn't translate as well into print, because a book doesn't have television's immediacy. There's no Super PAC plotline, just a bunch of chapters that respond to issues a bit too late. Colbert and his staff are still extraordinarily funny, but in reaching for a middle-of-the-road coffee table humor book, America Again finds the limits of their comedic talent. Hosted by Eric Schmidt Directed by Lee Stimmel

ADmented Reality - Google Glasses Remixed with Google Ads

01:14
When I saw Google had somehow forgotten to include any ads in their Project Glass promotional video I just couldn't resist fixing that oversight for them. So here is my slightly more realistic version of Google's augmented reality glasses - now featuring contextual Google Ads! Of course I'm exaggerating a bit here for visual effect to mimic the modern web browsing experience. Google will probably not be this obvious with their interface but there's no question that the company will be gathering a massive amount of extremely personal data based on what you look at and for how long. The company may use this data mining to build even more detailed consumer profiles and/or sell über targeted ads. Because let's face it, Google is really just a massive advertising company at heart. Fun Fact: All of the AdWords used are actual Google ad returns found via Google searches based on the dialog, situation or setting in the original video. Yes "Music, Stop!" does actually return an ad asking if you would like to listen to music. Google really can't be too annoyed at this remix because after all I'm just putting Google Ads overtop of a Google video on Google's owned video hosting service. See the original Google video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9c6W4CCU9M4 UPDATE: This remix appears to have gone viral with over half a million views in 5 days. I'm happy the video has been part of the changing media story around Google's "augmented reality" product from the initial uncritical view to a slightly more skeptical frame that at least raises concerns about privacy, personal data mining and "targeted" advertising. FURTHER READING: Back in February 2012 Sebastian Anthony wrote about the then-rumored Google glasses on Extreme Tech saying - "Remember, Google is ultimately an advertising company, where eyeballs directly translate into money — and it's hard to get any closer to your eyes than a pair of augmented reality glasses. When you look at a car dealership, Google will be able to display ads from a competitor. When you sit in front of a computer, or TV, or stare through a shop window, the glasses will be able to track your head movements and report back on the efficacy of display ads. Perhaps most excitingly, when you read a newspaper or book or other static medium, Google could even overlay its own, interactive ads." Here is a link to that article: http://www.extremetech.com/computing/119375-android-powered-google-glasses-the-augmented-reality-hud-dream-is-coming FAIR USE NOTICE: This transformative remix work constitutes a fair use of any copyrighted material as provided for in section 107 of the US copyright law.
