I had high expectations of Rio de Janeiro but even then the city managed to blow me away and each time I visit I fall more in love. The friendly people, good climate, delicious food, many cool activities and the beautiful landscapes make this destination incredible and has something to offer to every traveller. I haven't met anyone who travels to Rio and doesn't instantly fall in love. There's a magic about this place that needs to be experienced and once you get a taste of it you're hooked! Next time I go I would love to visit Salvador, Fernando Noronho, Floreonopolis, Alto Paraiso and the Amazon. Brazil is a beautiful country and holds a magic that everybody feels when visiting. Backpackers and locals alike will go to Pak n Save for one reason, the fresh produce section is unbelievably cheap. But with cheap meats, cheap veg and cheap cheese. Do not expect the meat to taste great or the veg to last very long. Accommodation The most common accommodation option for backpackers are hostels and they are everywhere! It is hard to find super cheap ones so if you are staying for the long run (like on a working holiday visa) then you may want to opt for a share house. The biggest website to use when looking for shared accommodation is TradeMe. Most spare rooms are unfurnished. We stayed away from shops such as Warehouse or Target furniture as they are all new and pricey. We headed to the Red Cross furniture shop over the road from our house and looked for a bed frame, willing to buy the mattress new. When it comes to the legality of it all, most landlords who rent to backpackers just ask for a couple of weeks rent in advance (sometimes a bond as well) but no contract. You just pay month to month! Give yourself extra time to find a place to live! We also found that lots of listings won’t rent to couples! So it took us around 2 weeks to finally move into a place! Transportation I’m going to break this section down into local transport and long distance options! Long distance: Depending on your budget there are a lot of options to getting between and around both islands. If you opt to go for a good old fashioned bus ride then your options are ManaBus and NakedBus. Both offer incredible $1 offers on their seats (yes, you heard me) and even if you miss the $1 deals, then their normal prices are incredibly low! If you need to fly then jump onto Skyscanner or Google Flights to check out the best deals, with Air New Zealand and Jet Star normally offering the lowest fairs! Renting a car or buying a van is by far the best way to see New Zealand. The complete freedom to drive at your own pace and stop off anywhere you want! Rent a Dent is an awesome option with cars starting at $20 a day Attractions New Zealand is the land of natural beauty… and free things! Why pay to stay inside a museum when you have some of the words most incredible landscapes right in front of you? Long day walks, thermal springs and mountain views are all free and are not hard to come by! Night life A pint of cold beer will set you back on average around $10 and obviously buying your alcohol from a bottle shop is considerably cheaper. However, on a good note, kiwi’s love their happy hour so look out for some good deals if you want to save a few bucks when you’re out and about! To get the best deals, try finding some local backpacker bars or see if your hostel has a bar before you book! If you are a smoker, then you will not like the prices of tobacco out here! Even more expensive than Australia, 50g pouch of tobacco will cost you around $70 (MINIMUM)… I’l let that one sink in. How I save money while traveling | SheDoesLiving

Money Saving Tips for travelers -------------------------------------------------- This video is in response to a comment made earlier this morning about the difficulties in travelling on a budget. I don't believe you need oodles of cash to have a great holiday. But it does take good prepping and planning. I've narrowed it down to 4 major money saving tips. 1. Budgeting - I use good ole fashion pen and paper, but I know people who also use the following apps: Money Budget App -https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ro.an.monthlybudget&hl=en Saving Made Simple - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ootpapps.saving.made.simple&hl=en Both are pretty straightforward to use, but will definitely help you reign in on the spending. Currency converter - xe.com Just simply because you should always have a idea of the exchange rate. On my phone I have My Currency for android - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.roqapps.mycurrencylite&hl=en 2. Tourist Passes / Incentives Whether its getting a rail pass or getting a certain map [we did this in Japan], definitely research all the tourist incentives. Each city has its own. For Japan, you should definitely get the JR pass: http://www.japanrailpass.net/eng/en001.html Students should check out these sites: http://www.studentuniverse.com/ http://www.interrail.eu/ http://www.eurail.com/eurail-passes/deals-discounts/youth-discounts 3. Shop wisely This is basic common sense, but keep that spending in check. We all dream of 'living it up' but bear in mind that you have to get back to reality at some point, so no matter how amazing the adventure, bear that in mind. 4. Travel safe You may not agree with me on this one, but I think there are plenty of horror stories out there that help my case. Before I forget....INSURANCE! People always forget but never leave for a trip without it. If you don't believe me, just google, "no insurance horror stories" and see what comes up. http://www.wanderlust.co.uk/magazine/articles/advice/potential-costs-without-travel-insurance?page=all All in all, I hope that puts you on your way to planning your ultimate dream holiday. 2015 should be the year where you get out of your comfort zone and go to the places of your dreams. Travelling 'can' be cheap. ==================================== Please feel free to ask me any question if I miss something major, or if you need to know more. Don't forget to comment or subscribe. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Check out my blog: shedoesliving.com Or you can catch me on: Instagram | @shedoesliving Twitter | @shedoesliving Pinterest | http://www.pinterest.com/auroror/ Thanks for watching x

Kid Size Shopping Trip Part 2: Learning to Budget Money

There are so many things to learn in a grocery store! We thought sharing our shopping trip would be a great way to show how we keep our kids involved in the shopping trip but also how are teaching our kids to learn to budget their money. Exploring Penang (Georgetown): Things To Do in One Day

18:31
After our trip to Langkawi, we headed to Georgetown, in Penang, Malaysia. One day we walked around and did all these things in a single day. More coming on: http://migrationology.com/ Penang, Malaysia is an island just off the coast of the West Coast of Malaysia. It’s one of the most famous areas of Malaysia, especially known for its rich and diverse culture and for its food - many people come to Penang just to eat - as did I. Ying and I arrived to Penang from Langkawi, and we stayed in Penang for about a week, doing some work, and eating out way through the city. One day though, we decided to put on our shoes and go to visit as many of the attractions in the center of the city as we could. So this travel videos is an overview of the top things to do in Georgetown, Penang, but also a travel guide as well. Hope you enjoy to! To begin the day, I started off with a Penang tourist map and located all the places we wanted to go. Since we were staying close to the Georgetown World Heritage Inc., that’s where we first decided to stop. It’s more of an information center, so after just a few minutes we continued on our way to the Chew Jetty, one of the couple of Chinese docks where homes are built over the water. On the way though, we walked through Lebuh Armenian (one of the most famous streets in Penang), past George Town street art, and also briefly stopped at Cheah Kongsi. The Chew Jetty was a nice place to walk around for a few minutes, there wasn’t a lot to do there, but mostly some small souvenir shops and some nice places to take photos. We continued walking and passed the Queen Victory Lighthouse and then we continued on to Fort Cornwallis, a British built fort, and the only fort in Malaysia - though as they said it wasn’t ever used for battle. I was a little disappointed visiting Fort Cornwallis in Penang because we paid a pretty big entrance fee, but there really wasn’t anything to see inside - I could have seen it all from the outside. Anyway, we continued on walking around Penang, and then circled back past a cathedral. By this time we were getting quite hungry, so we headed into Little India, and then continued to a famous restaurant called Kapitan for tandoori chicken. I didn’t know they were really famous for their rice biryani, but I got a couple pieces of tandoori chicken and naan, it they were both incredible. In the afternoon, we first stopped at the Goddess of Mercy Temple in Penang, and walked around for a few minutes, and then continued on to Cheong Fatt Tze Mansion, one of Penang’s main attractions and a place I was really looking forward to visiting. Mr. Cheong, an insanely wealthy Chinese business man built the Blue Mansion and it has now been restored and it’s actually open as a hotel, but they also give a couple of guided tours each day. The tour took 45 minutes, and it was beautiful to see. The only thing I wish is that we could have seen a little more of the Blue Mansion, because unfortunately we didn’t get to see much, but mostly listened to the history of the mansion - still it was worth seeing in Penang. To finish of one day of things to do in Penang, Georgetown, we visited the Kapitan Keling Mosque, and then lastly we went to Khoo Kongsi. For dinner to end this day in Penang, we went to a restaurant to eat dim sum, and a few other Chinese dishes as well. Thank you for watching this “things to do in Geogetown, Penang” travel video. Hope you enjoyed it, and hope it will give you some ideas for what to do when you visit. More Penang street food videos coming soon! Thai Street Food: The ULTIMATE Chinatown Bangkok Tour (เยาวราช) - Bangkok Day 9

37:21
Chinatown Bangkok (เยาวราช) is one of the best Thai street food areas of Bangkok. Download your free Bangkok food guide here: http://migrationology.com/2weeksinbangkok/ On Day 9 of this Bangkok travel guide video series (2 Weeks in Bangkok) we spent the entire day eating Thai food in Yaowarat (เยาวราช), which is Chinatown Bangkok. There are some seriously amazing dishes to eat! 1:20 Thai Haeng (ร้านไท้เฮง) Restaurant - To begin out Thai street food tour in Chinatown we started at a restaurant called Thai Haeng (ร้านไท้เฮง), and to specifically eat a dish called suki ruam mit haeng (สุกี้รวมมิตรแห้ง), which is Thai style suki, the dry version. It included napa cabbage, some other vegetables and a mix of seafood and meat, all stir fried with mung bean noodles. It had the most amazing smoky flavor, and was served with a Thai sauce made with fermented soy. We also had a plate of khao man gai (ข้าวมันไก่), which is Thai style chicken rice. 6:28 Sampeng Market (สำเพ็ง) - Along with Thai street food, one of the most famous things about Yaowarat (เยาวราช) is the shopping - both for food shopping and things shopping. Sampeng Market (สำเพ็ง) is a long market that occupies a walking road within Bangkok and you can find all sorts of random things within the market - especially buttons and textiles. Eeia Saey (ร้านเอียะแซ) coffee shop and Kan Kee Namdaothong (ร้านคั้นกี่น้ำเต้าทอง) Chinese health drink - After finishing a little bit of shopping on this food tour, we stopped at two different places to get a drink. One of them is an old school Bangkok Chinatown heritage coffee shop, and then we had a bitter health beverage that was so intense it almost made me shiver. We then just quickly stopped off at Wat Leng Noi Yee (วัดเล่งเน่ยยี่), one of the most well known Chinese temples in Bangkok. 10:51 Khao Gaeng Jek Puey (ข้าวแกงเจ๊กปุ้ย) - I wasn’t actually planning on eating here on this day food tour in Bangkok, but after passing it, I couldn’t resist sitting down for a quick plate of Thai rice and curry at Khao Gaeng Jek Puey (ข้าวแกงเจ๊กปุ้ย). I got my usual order of stir fried crab, and I also decided to have the panang curry as well. This is one of the best Thai street food stalls in Bangkok especially for the incredibly atmosphere. We continued walking through Talad Drok Itsara Nuphap (ตลาดตรอกอิสรานุภาพ) - a market in an alley. 15:07 Lek and Rut Seafood (ร้านเล็กกับรัตน์ซีฟู้ด) - When it comes to Thai food in Chinatown, seafood is one of the most popular choices. This time we ate at Lek and Rut Seafood (ร้านเล็กกับรัตน์ซีฟู้ด), which is right across the street from the other famous T and K seafood restaurant. We ordered some roasted prawns, and squid steamed in lime juice, garlic and chilies. The food was delicious! 21:56 Kuay Jab Nay Lek (ร้านก๋วยจั๊บนายเล็ก (อ้วน) - A Thai food trip to Chinatown wouldn’t be complete without a bowl of kuay jab tuk yang (ก๋วยจั๊บทุกอย่าง), which is a bowl of noodle rolls in a peppery broth. It’s one of the ultimate Thai dishes in Chinatown. 25:28 Hoy Kraeng Pa Jeen (หอยแครงป้าจิน) - To end the day of eating, at least for main street food stalls, we headed to Hoy Kraeng Pa Jeen (หอยแครงป้าจิน), a place that specializes in boiled blood cockles and mussels. They are some of the finest shellfish you’ll find anywhere in Bangkok, and this Thai street food stall has been around for over 50 years I believe. It’s an amazing place! 30:15 For dessert we had Khanom Pang Jao Gao (ขนมปังเจ้าเก่าเด็ดในเยาวราช), an incredibly popular place that specializes in grilled bread, and bua loy nam king (บัวลอยน้ำขิง), which is ginger soup and sesame dumplings. ============================================ Migrationology.com: http://migrationology.com/ EatingThaiFood.com: http://eatingthaifood.com/ TravelByYing.com: http://travelbyying.com/ Instagram: https://instagram.com/migrationology Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/migrationology ►Camera I use: http://migrationology.com/travel-resources/ ►T-shirts: https://migrationology.com/store/ ►Donate: https://migrationology.com/donate/ ►Download Your Free Bangkok eBook: http://migrationology.com/2weeksinbangkok/ (it includes all the information, addresses, a map, and prices of everything we did and ate in this entire 2 Weeks In Bangkok video series). The only Grand Duchy in the world. Over the next few days we're going to be exploring the capital of Luxembourg City and this is going to be a little city guide to show you some of the highlights. Located smack dab in between Germany, France, and Belgium, the little Grand Duchy of Luxembourg can be easy to miss if you're not looking carefully, however, we're of the opinion that this is a beautiful destination that you'll definitely want to make time for. From picturesque neighbourhoods with cream coloured walls, to dazzling views of blue rooftops in the Old Town below, Luxembourg City is a charming destination that you'll want to add to your European itinerary. So this hear is the Corniche and it is a pedestrian promenade which has been called the most beautiful balcony in all of Europe because it gets some spectacular views of the old town. So we are now entering the Bock Casemates and apparently this was the old fortification of Luxemborg and it was known as the Gibraltar of the north. This was once one of the most envied fortresses in all of Europe. Right now we're visiting the Three Towers which are remnants of an old fortress. We've been walking around a neighborhood called the Grund which is directly below the city center. And it is really picturesque and without tourists. So behind me we have Saint Michael's church which is the oldest church in Luxembourg. The first church to be built on this spot dates back to the year 987, however, the church was destroyed, rebuilt, and renovated many times over the centuries. The Palace houses the Grand Duke's office and during the summer months. There is no shortage of museums in Luxembourg City, so we took some time to visit the National Museum of Art and History. We are now looking at the Passerelle which is Luxembourg's very own viaduct. So we are now standing in William Square which is a really popular spot on Sundays and Wednesdays because local vendors setup shop and they sell all kinds of things from fresh produce, to flowers, street snacks. So final thoughts of Luxembourg. Alright, to wrap things up here it was a really cool city. It is the type of city that you can explore in just one or two days. A weekend type of destination because a lot of the attractions are nearby one another. And we just found it a very easy city to get around in on foot. So as a little travel tip if you're planning on being in the city for a few days we really recommend the Luxembourg Card. This is what we used while we were here and it is really good for public transportation across the city. Across the country actually and you also get access to seventy different galleries, museums, historic attractions and it is not that expensive. I mean it depends on whether you get a family or an individual card but we really recommend it because we made a lot of use of it. Our visit to Luxembourg City was short and sweet, but we hope this video gave you a little taste of what it's like. Now it's your turn: have you ever been to Luxembourg? If so, feel free to share some of your tips in the comments below. This is part of our Travel in Luxembourg series. We're making a series of videos showcasing Luxembourg culture, Luxembourg foods & Luxembourg cuisine. Music in this video courtesy of Audio Network
