Vaadhoo is one of the inhabited islands of Raa Atoll, Maldives. Vaadhoo island is famous for the 'sea of stars.' This marine bioluminescence is generated by phytoplankton known as dinoflagellates. Woodland Hastings of Harvard University has for the first time identified a special channel in the dinoflagellate cell membrane that responds to electrical signals—offering a potential mechanism for how the algae create their unique illumination.

Beautiful secluded beach scene surrounded by towering cliffs and a wild ocean... golden sand, big ocean waves, sea birds and fresh sea air. Just what the doctor ordered. The scene was filmed from the entrance to a shallow sea cave/ledge so some sounds are altered/amplified a little. The high cliffs surrounding the beach also add some character to the sound experienced there. I filmed this just after sunrise at Diaz Beach, Cape Point (Cape of Good Hope) South Africa. The area's other name is The Cape of Storms which it often lives up to with very strong wind blowing almost year-round. It's a rugged windswept landscape with some of the highest sea cliffs in the world. Cape Point is one of my favorite places to visit because of it's dramatic landscapes and rugged beauty. I plan to film quite a few more scenes here so if you like this one, let me know and I will make a plan to get out there again soon. Suggestion: Enjoy these videos when you have the time, and even when you're busy. I love playing them in the background while I cook, read, study or do other chores. I find it very relaxing as I imagine living next to the sea. Many people also like to fall asleep to nature sounds, or watch videos like this before going to sleep to help them relax. You could also play these while meditating... nature sounds and scenes like this one are great to watch or listen to as a meditation aid. This one has it all... stunning ocean waves curling, breaking and crashing with great sounds of the ocean. You will also hear other nature sounds, especially if you have a good sound system or listen with quality earphones. Hope you enjoy the video as much as I did filming it. Consider subscribing if you want to be notified when I upload new ocean and nature scenes. By US Air Force Band La mer, trois esquisses symphoniques pour orchestre (French for The sea, three symphonic sketches for orchestra), or simply La mer (i.e. The Sea), is an orchestral composition (L 109) by the French composer Claude Debussy. Composed between 1903 and 1905, the piece was initially not well received, but soon became one of Debussy's most admired and frequently performed orchestral works. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/La_mer_%28Debussy%29 Claude-Achille Debussy (French: [klod aʃil dəbysi]; 22 August 1862 – 25 March 1918) was a French composer. Along with Maurice Ravel, he was one of the most prominent figures associated with Impressionist music, though he himself disliked the term when applied to his compositions. He was made Chevalier of the Legion of Honour in his native France in 1903. Debussy was among the most influential composers of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and his use of non-traditional scales and chromaticism influenced many composers who followed. Debussy's music is noted for its sensory content and frequent usage of nontraditional tonalities. The prominent French literary style of his period was known as Symbolism, and this movement directly inspired Debussy both as a composer and as an active cultural participant. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Claude_Debussy

FILM DESCRIPTION: Angelina Jolie directs this true-life tale of Louis Zamperini, the Olympic track star who survived a plane crash in World War II, only to fight for his life against nature and eventually as a prisoner of war. Joel and Ethan Coen provide the script. Louis (Jack O'Connell) grows up a rough-hewn kid on the verge of becoming a full-on delinquent, until his brother starts training him to be a track star. Louis excels at the sport, and eventually represents America at the 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin. During his training, he learns to become resilient and disciplined; his brother's words of advice, "If you can take it, you can make it," push him to overcome any adversity. He must live up to that adage under the most extreme circumstances after his plane is shot down during another bombing raid. He is stranded at sea for more than a month, only to be found by the Japanese and forced to endure constant physical abuse at the hands of sadistic prison-camp guard Mutsuhiro Watanabe (Japanese pop star Miyavi), who wants to break Louis' indomitable spirit. From Nemo, the clownfish, to the beautiful and elusive Blue Sea Slug, these are 19 INCREDIBLY Colorful Sea Creatures ! 8. Blue Tang -- Undersea creatures seem to look really cool in blue … and this one is no exception. The Blue Tang shows off some amazing blue coloration complemented by bold black markings. It almost sounds like a fashion shows, right? These fish are usually found in Indo-Pacific waters and are actually bright yellow when they’re younger. The blue and black colors show up at their final phase of development. 7. Coral -- Is that a brain at the bottom of the ocean? No … but it is a brain coral … and just an example of the wide ranging variety of living coral and coral reefs, some of which are thought to have started growing over 50 million years ago. Contrary to some beliefs, coral are animals, not plants … they’re actually related to anemones and jellyfish. The reefs formed by coral provide housing for thousands of marine species, giving them a place to find food, reproduce, and keep them safe until they’re mature enough to venture into the deeper ocean. Did you know coral reef plants and animals have proven important to the development of new medicines to treat cancer, Alzheimer's and heart disease? But even with all those advantages, human activity is threatening almost 60 percent of the world’s coral reefs. 6. Flower Hat Jellyfish -- This rare species of jellyfish is a rare species usually found in the waters of southern japan, Argentina and Brazil. It can grow to a half-foot in diameter, and is easily recognizable by its translucent bell, which is pinstriped with opaque bands. Those coiling tentacles adhere to the rim while not in use. Like many pretty looking things, this jelly carries a sting … but even though it’s painful, it’s non-lethal to humans … the worst you’d get is a rash. 5. Blue Sea Slug -- We couldn’t find a lot of information on this critter. From what we’ve seen, it’s often identified as a Blue Sea Slug … but that sounds like a pedestrian name for such a colorful creature. You can see the brilliant blue coloration in this photo … the animal almost looks like an alien life form with the two antennae sticking up. We’re guessing it might be a Nudibranch (new-di-brank). Those mollusks are noted for their striking colors, and there are more than 2,300 validated species scattered about the world. Can you confirm that? Let us know in the comments! 4. Mantis Shrimp -- They’re one of the most colorful forms of marine life, but don’t be fooled. They’re also known as ferocious undersea predators that possess, pound for pound, one of the most powerful punches on the planet. Punching with speed equal to a .22 caliber bullet, the Mantis Shrimp has not only broken shells of its prey … it’s also broken through aquarium glass. Punching at that velocity makes water vaporize and explode with a sharp bang, a flash of light and extremely high heat, all of which is felt by the victim as an additional blast. Not bad for an animal that averages less than four inches long. 3. Juvenile Emperor Angelfish -- Their coloration will change with age … but while they’re young, they exhibit these amazing displays of swirling dark blue, white and electric blue. It almost look hypnotic, right? Well, the fish keeps these distinct patterns until it reaches maturity, which usually takes around 4 years. Then the fish develops blue and yellow stripes, and black shading around its eyes. 2. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amphiprioninae Clownfish -- Did you recognize them from “Finding Nemo”? Known as one of the most brightly colored fish in the world, their bodies have distinctive white striping with colors that can vary from red, orange or yellow. They’re also known as anemone fishes, because of their mutually beneficial relationship with sea anemones. The toxic tentacles of the anemones protect clownfish from predators. And the fast movement of the fishes helps anemones find food and increase circulation. 1. The Mandarinfish -- Also known as the “Mandarin Dragonet” it swims in the Pacific reefs … but it’s less than 3 inches long so it can be difficult to see in the wild. As you might guess, this fish is highly sought after in the aquarium trade … but they’re considered extremely difficult to their strict eating habits. Some people think the Mandarinfish might be the most beautiful fish in the world … would you agree? to Epic Wildlife http://goo.gl/6rzs5u Let's Connect -- http://www.epicadamwildlife.com/ -- http://www.facebook.com/epicadamwildlife -- http://www.twitter.com/epicwildlife -- http://gplus.to/epicwildlife

n the very beginning of earth's history, this planet was a giant, red hot, roiling, boiling sea of molten rock - a magma ocean. The heat had been generated by the repeated high speed collisions of much smaller bodies of space rocks that continually clumped together as they collided to form this planet. As the collisions tapered off the earth began to cool, forming a thin crust on its surface. As the cooling continued, water vapor began to escape and condense in the earth's early atmosphere. Clouds formed and storms raged, raining more and more water down on the primitive earth, cooling the surface further until it was flooded with water, forming the seas. It is theorized that the true age of the earth is about 4.6 billion years old, formed at about the same time as the rest of our solar system. The oldest rocks geologists have been able to find are 3.9 billion years old. Using radiometric dating methods to determine the age of rocks means scientists have to rely on when the rock was initially formed (as in - when its internal minerals first cooled). In the infancy of our home planet the entire earth was molten rock - a magma ocean. Since we can only measure as far back in time as we had solid rock on this planet, we are limited in how we can measure the real age of the earth. Due to the forces of plate tectonics, our planet is also a very dynamic one; new mountains forming, old ones wearing down, volcanoes melting and reshaping new crust. The continual changing and reshaping of the earth's surface that involves the melting down and reconstructing of old rock has pretty much eliminated most of the original rocks that came with earth when it was newly formed. So the age is a theoretical age. When Did Life on Earth Begin? Scientists are still trying to unravel one of the greatest mysteries of earth: When did "life" first appear and how did it happen? It is estimated that the first life forms on earth were primitive, one-celled creatures that appeared about 3 billion years ago. That's pretty much all there was for about the next two billion years. Then suddenly those single celled organisms began to evolve into multicellular organisms. Then an unprecedented profusion of life in incredibly complex forms began to fill the oceans. Some crawled from the seas and took residence on land, perhaps to escape predators in the ocean. A cascading chain of new and increasingly differentiated forms of life appeared all over the planet, only to be virtually annihilated by an unexplained mass extinction. It would be the first of several mass extinctions in Earth's history. Scientists have been looking increasingly to space to explain these mass extinctions that have been happening almost like clockwork since the beginning of "living" time. Perhaps we've been getting periodically belted by more space rocks (ie. asteroids), or the collision of neutron stars happening too close for comfort? Each time a mass extinction occurred, life found a way to come back from the brink. Life has tenaciously clung to this small blue planet for the last three billion years. Thanks to the Disney/Pixar movie Finding Nemo, virtually everyone has heard of the clownfish. Jonathan travels the Pacific to investigate the behavior of real clownfish. Even though they don’t actually talk in real life, they are beautiful and fascinating fish to observe. JONATHAN BIRD'S BLUE WORLD is an Emmy Award-winning underwater science/adventure program that airs on public television in the United States. ********************************************************************** If you like Jonathan Bird's Blue World, don't forget to subscribe! In real life, these little fish are a lot different from their Hollywood portrayal—I mean other than the fact that they don’t actually talk. But you may find these colorful little fish quite surprising. Join me on a dive to meet some real anemonefish! Anemonefish are found all over the tropical parts of the Indian and Pacific Oceans. They are quite common on coral reefs, so it wont take me too long to find one. Searching a reef on the Pacific Island of Yap, I soon come across a pair of Orange-fin Anemonefish, frolicking in an anemone that looks like a shag carpet. They are not afraid of me at all. I can swim right up and look them in the eye. There are 28 different species of anemonefish—all of which are very colorful, but the Clown anemonefish (sometimes called the clownfish) is probably the most beautiful. This is the species that was the basis for the character in Finding Nemo. Anemonefish get their name because they live in a toxic anemone. This lush carpet has venomous tentacles that sting most fish. But the anemonefish is covered in a special slimy mucous that keeps the anemone from stinging it. Because of this adaptation, the anemonefish can live, protected by the anemone, happily playing in the very tentacles that would kill other fish. Anemonefish are not the only animals that can live in the anemone. Cleaner shrimps hide here as well. They eat by cleaning the parasites from the fish, and in exchange for their services, the fish graciously don’t eat the shrimp. But it’s hard to relax when you are batted around by hyperactive anemonefish all day long! The protection afforded by the anemone is the reason why the anemonefish aren’t afraid of me. They know that the anemone’s stinging tentacles keep them safe. If another fish like this damselfish comes near the anemone, the anemonefish become territorial, and chase it away. They protect their anemone just as much as the anemone protects them, so it’s a good relationship. And if a fish gets too close, the anemone gets a meal—using its venomous tentacles to sting and disable the fish. This fish is lunch. The anemone might look like some kind of weird plant, but it’s actually a simple animal with a mouth in the middle. It’s basically a jellyfish that can’t swim. The anemone is a formidable allay to the anemonefish in more ways than one. They use the protection of the anemone to keep their eggs safe too. The female anemonefish deposits her eggs on the reef, under the edge of the anemone. Then her subservient males take over. The males provide all the egg care. The female just sits back and watches. In any group of anemonefish, there is always one anemonefish which is the largest. This is the dominant female. In anemonefish society, the females are the boss. One of the most interesting things about anemonefish is that they are all born male, but as they mature, some will completely transform into females! Only when the dominant female dies will the next male in line get the chance to transform into a female and become the head honcho. Until then, all the smaller anemonefish in the anemone are subservient males. Truth is stranger than fiction as it turns out, and as my dive comes to an end, I realize that anemonefish are even more fascinating than Hollywood would have us believe. The animals of the ocean truly are remarkable.

There have only been two manned descents to the very bottom nearly 7 miles deep of pure darkness. Not only is it a fascinating place and wonder of the planet, but it's also shrouded in mystery. Since so few have been down there, and only a hand full of cameras have recorded the bottom, what creatures live at the bottom is one of life's mysterious. Sit back and enjoy this short documentary of the Marian Trench in all its glory and mystery. ____________________________________________________________________ Don't forget to follow TOP5s on Social Media to keep up with upcoming videos and information! :) Twitter - https://twitter.com/TheTop5s Facebook - https://en-gb.facebook.com/TheOfficialTop5s/ Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/thetop5sofficial/?hl=en Also, check out the new Top5s website to read or even write your own interesting articles!
