We kick off our Ultimate Phuket Resort Travel Series by showing you how to book cheap flights, avoid paying too much for taxis, and introduce you to a super affordable 5 star resort close to the airport, The Slate Phuket, formerly known as the Indigo Pearl. We give you helpful little tips and hints in dealing with the tuk tuk mafia there and also discuss other possible transportation options Checkout my google maps list for all the locations I visit on my vlogs https://goo.gl/maps/VkXX9wbP9WH2 Music by by Ukiyo: No Limit, I Did You Wrong, Skyline http://soundcloud.com/ukiyoau/ http://www.facebook.com/ukiyoau/ Current Gear I Use to Film My Vlogs SONY A7Sii: https://amzn.to/2Ieu6ut Zhiyun Crane Plus: https://amzn.to/2KiiFCN Zeiss Batis 2/25: https://amzn.to/2wAlDk7 Helios 44-2: https://amzn.to/2KUYzQ K&F M42 Lens Adapter: https://amzn.to/2GDovMS K&F ND Filter: https://amzn.to/2KXxWtF Iphone 7: https://amzn.to/2IzzRq9 Older Gear I Used that I No Longer Use GoPro Hero Session: https://amzn.to/2wAt8Ym S40 SteadyCam: https://amzn.to/2KYaEUD Disclaimer: This description contains affiliate links above, which means I may receive a small referral commission if you purchase something through the links, but it'll in no way effect your purchase price, and it'll support the channel and help me to continue to make videos like this. In the green season . You may try visit foggy mount , green rice field in the north ( ex. Phu tubberg in petchabun , Pua rice field in Nan ) I think you can present other kind of place for your subscribers .
LIVE TRAVEL ASIA (2 months ago)
Yes Actually I've been saving Sapa for the ricefields. Eventually I hope to visit everywhere :)

I've been to Phuket about 3-4 times. I would definitely recommend renting a car (or maybe a motorbike?) and driving around without having to deal with the insane Taxi prices. Will let you explore the island by yourself at your own pace. There are so many beautiful beaches on Phuket itself. It can take a few days just to visit all of them. Then there are the many boat tours you can do. About 4-5 days is what I do for my Phuket vacations.
LIVE TRAVEL ASIA (2 months ago)
chanon81 yeah we rented a motorcycle and explored the island the first time we went but I prefer krabi personally. We found the resorts the best part about Phuket so we went there just to relax. My girlfriend used to work in Phuket for a year so there wasn’t much else she hadn’t seen
Ray Prince (2 months ago)
Mayu should appreciate being with a decent guy like yourself. A true gentleman. Love your videos man.
LIVE TRAVEL ASIA (2 months ago)
Haha thanks bro and she definitely does a lot of appreciating and that's why I also appreciate her. She's really great and I don't say this lightly :)

Good vlog, the music is great, just been checking out that Ukiyo in your link, thanks. After 5 years away from Thailand i am going back next year. I cant wait coz this time its gonna be Phuket and not Pattaya. I heard it is a younger crowd so i am hoping that at 54 i do not look to ancient. Love the music intro retro sound. Uplifting vlogs, all the best Live Travel Asia you have a good channel.
LIVE TRAVEL ASIA (2 months ago)
hotbananas 2 haha yeah ukiyo is great. I chatted w him. A young guy from Kenya where I lived for 7 yrs. pattaya is still an older crowd relatively. I think 50 something you’ll fit it

dope instrumentals on this vlog...
LIVE TRAVEL ASIA (2 months ago)
Yeah I spent quite a bit of time trying to find the right song for the cinematics! Good to see someone appreciate it :)

I do the same thing on the budget airlines. Skipping the check-in bags I mean. I throw some clothes and toothbrush in a back pack and buy toiletries at the 7-11 when I arrive.
LIVE TRAVEL ASIA (2 months ago)
haha that's the way to do it!
Blackford Oakes (3 months ago)
Decent prices and you found crazy cheap airfare. Not ready for Phuket yet. Probably on third trip. As a Floridian, I'm not starving for beach time. My ex has been to Phuket twice and wanted me to visit there on my recent month stay in Thailand. She also knows vegging at a beach resort is not my thing. But it's someplace I'd like to visit one day.
LIVE TRAVEL ASIA (3 months ago)
Yeah... I am from the OC and Huntington beach was a few miles away so I am not a huge beach person. The resort is pretty nice to chill at however and when we did the math, it ended up being cheaper than our KhaoYai trip. I think its a good place to go if you have a girlfriend with you as the girls tend to really like resorts, taking pictures, etc etc. I don't mind their breakfast buffet either. You'll see I end up dedicating a whole vlog to the breakfast. It's the best breakfast buffet I've ever had and I don't say this lightly as my bank used to send me to the best hotels. haha

Grab bought Uber's SEA business. There won't be any more Uber in Thailand.
LIVE TRAVEL ASIA (3 months ago)
Yeah I think I heard something to that effect before. Thanks for confirming tjis

U r doing an amazing work about Asia but your videos are too long please try to make it like 10-15 mins so it wont be boring rather make two different topics! Thanks love ur work!!
LIVE TRAVEL ASIA (3 months ago)
Thanks for the comment. I only add additional parts after the soft ending for people who are interested in the details or just want some more behind the scenes. I recommend you only watch it up to the first ending as the additional stuff after that is supplemental

Hi Ethan, Wow, an Excellent place to just enjoy the resort. I’m adding it to my weekender to do list if I save up for the taxi fare. Great informative video to save on airfare. Looking forward to the rest of the resort videos.

It's not bad for a weekend getaway when you feel like you wanna splurge a bit and it isn't going to break the bank

Nicolas (3 months ago)
Learned a lot of things in this video: 400 baht for a 3km taxi ride... GRAB not supposed to allow foreigners (although they advertised everywhere in English...); 11 bucks flight BKK>Phuket?! Amazing. Very useful info about the budget for one day. You keep outdoing yourself Ethan; thanks to both for sharing your little secret. The room has a great ambiance for the price. I'll give it a try. And good Moby style music btw. Would you say the room is 10% more expensive during high season?
LIVE TRAVEL ASIA (3 months ago)
I think it’s almost double the price maybe even more in high season particularly Thai holidays. I’d only go during low season as I don’t think the resort experience is good w a bunch of other guest anyways. Nothing relaxing about it.
gepardlee (3 months ago)
Nice resort..... If I'm not mistaken Phuket is the most expensive place in Thailand. Enjoy yourselves.....
LIVE TRAVEL ASIA (3 months ago)
Yes it is. But with a little know how it can be relatively affordable. We actually ended up spending less here in 3 days than we did in khao yai
mx5hong (3 months ago)
Motivational books for in-flight entertainment? Considering the sketchy reputation on those budget airlines in terms of maintenance(?), hey, one might need it as the aircraft is going down! J/K!!! :p But seriously, if the aircraft I'm in is going down, I ain't going to reach for a motivational audio book. I'd be like: "PHUKET, I'm gonna die anyways!" HAHAHAHA!!!! BTW, do those resorts/hotels there have those mini-bars where your room gets charged if you pick up an item? Say one of those tiny bottles of booze, water or snack? So to cheat the system, you try to find something of similar weight and you try to do a Indiana Jones???
LIVE TRAVEL ASIA (3 months ago)
Lol no it’s not that advanced. They just have the maid confirm everything is in place before checkout. One time the ashtray broke because the money was playing w it outside and it was hilarious when I was explaining to them it wasn’t me it was the monkey. We all had a good laugh and they didn’t charge me lol

LIVE TRAVEL ASIA (3 months ago)
Thanks!! Haha actually now I am nearing 10k as I filmed that video a few months ago lol
Best101 (3 months ago)
Good video! Thanks for sharing. Budget airlines FTW!!! That’s one of the most amazing things about Thailand. The so-called “budget” airlines use a much better, newer, cleaner, and often less crowded fleet than your ordinary and crappy (read: old, dirty, crowded/oversold) US penny-pinching airlines ranging from United to Delta, at... wait for it... 10-20x the cost! It’s a disgrace. Every one of them should be forced to travel domestically in Thailand to see what you get for $10-20. They’d be astonished, I guarantee it. Ok, rant over lol As for Phuket, I was just there a few months ago. Their taxis are one of the most expensive anywhere in the country. Expected price is always in the 700-1000 Baht range, depending on the day of the week and holidays. Grab *can* be cheaper, but beware because in my experience, the mafia is very good at selecting them at roadblocks. They won’t do anything to you, but you’ll waste a lot of time going through the hassle of seeing your driver getting harassed or arrested. Now, generally speaking, everything in Phuket was very overpriced. Not surprising since it’s still the number one most visited island. The good news is that it has the best nightlife and restaurant variety of all islands. And yes, as you mentioned, it’s not an island that I look forward to visiting again anytime soon. Too many tourists for my taste and not enough interesting places to explore on the main island. Resorts and hotels are very nice though.
LIVE TRAVEL ASIA (3 months ago)
Damn that would suck to see my driver get harassed... I feel the authorities really need to do something about this. It’s a blemish on an good country

Great video! I agree totally about Phuket being touristy. The whole tropical rainforest vibe during the off-season is where it's at. Keep up the great work Ethan! Fan from Toronto

Amazing hotel ! Funny the taxi mafia costed almost or same as air fares ! Thanks for sharing your moments :)
LIVE TRAVEL ASIA (3 months ago)
You're welcome. Yes the hotel was so close we could even walk... actually we walked an even longer distance on the beach to a viewpoint on our last day here and we would have if we didn't have bags and it wasn't raining
Thana Ang (3 months ago)
That is bad, Thai Authority should do some thing about it.
LIVE TRAVEL ASIA (3 months ago)
Yeah... they usually crack down on this kind of stuff in other areas but idk why they allow it in Phuket. It really ruins the experience and gives a bad image of Thailand in general for those of us who know better... well I guess people who only go to Phuket wouldn't know because the fares are still cheaper than the states but eventually they will know when they go to bangkok and realize the metered taxis are so much cheaper. They enforce the laws in Bangkok but for some reason not in Phuket. My guess is it'll eventually happen but it's reasons like this I think Phuket is overrated and I only went to just relax at a resort
Ross Rendale (3 months ago)
D-Buk pronounced Dee-Book means Tin (chemical element) in Thai. Phuket had one of the biggest tin mining industry in the past.
LIVE TRAVEL ASIA (3 months ago)
That makes so much sense. The hotel was built on an old Tin mine! Thanks for the info!

FYI, Uber pulled out of SEA a few months ago, too bad. They turned it over to Grab. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2018-03-26/uber-cedes-southeast-asia-to-chief-rival-grab-in-latest-pullout
LIVE TRAVEL ASIA (3 months ago)
Yeah I thought I heard about this but wasn't sure. Didn't wanna say anything definitively. Uber wasn't any cheaper than the metered taxis here anyways and grab works sufficiently for the rare cases i'll want to book a car other than the local taxis here

When you're in Phuket, you should collab with 20 SECONDS IN THAILAND / Thailand Rob. He's an American YouTuber in Kamala, Phuket.
LIVE TRAVEL ASIA (3 months ago)
I am always looking to collab but this time I agreed to just stay in the resort with Mayu to get our money's worth as our last trip we were just driving around everywhere on our scooters after having paid for a day at a fancy hotel haha

19:25 I agree Mayu I started to fall asleep too.... gawd he is rambling on...……….. :-P

I hope I can get by on $100 a day in Thailand next year. I don’t party much. A big night out for me will probably be Kev’s meet night.
Anon Ymous (3 months ago)
huh?

""Blowing"
Anon Ymous (3 months ago)
On my first trip in 2008 was blowing 20,000thb a day not including hotel. That was a fun 17 days.
LIVE TRAVEL ASIA (3 months ago)
100 dollars is more than enough for a night out haha. If you're partying 100 dollars worth every night your liver will probably get shot to hell. I got by on less than 100 a day in most places out here and sometimes even less than 50 when I was budgeting during backpacking trips and such

Great vlog at just the right length of time Thanks
LIVE TRAVEL ASIA (3 months ago)
Thank you. This one was a bit long but I am doing a soft ending for people with shorter attention spans so there's something for everyone as I want to also address any of the detailed questions some people may have
Chris Lee (3 months ago)
Don't fall for the timeshare presentation. The sales guys (frontline) are normally very polite, civil & nice but then, there are different sets of guys in the hall (room), who are usually insistent, belligerent & aggressive after presentation. Also, the presentation will last longer than 90 mins (usually almost upto 180 mins.) And it has been studied that 90 mins (minimally) are required to pressurize (someone) into adopting radically different beliefs by using systematic and often "brainwash" means (having to sit through presentation slides, shows, talks, etc....) Avoid these timeshare at all means, bro !
LIVE TRAVEL ASIA (2 months ago)
Damn good advice buddy!
Chris Lee (3 months ago)
We are no match for them, so best to avoid them. These timeshare guys have done lots of studies & have perfected their "acts". Plenty of police cases made here (Singapore) about them 10 years ago.
LIVE TRAVEL ASIA (3 months ago)
Haha yeah... Actually I've never heard anything good about them and I wanted to chill this time so we avoided it. Don't think we'll ever go into it. Interesting facts about brainwashing however lol
Lovely room and not a bad price. I've never really fancied visiting Phuket but I'm sure a weekend break could be on the cards soon.
LIVE TRAVEL ASIA (3 months ago)
Yeah me neither... it was one of those checkmarks I was ticking off but I've found the top end resorts to be nice here. That's honestly the only reason I'd probably go in the future as I've found Krabi more enjoyable for adventures and nature
Paulo Gaeta (3 months ago)
The last time I was on Phuket island I took a mini-van to Phuket town (to the door of the hotel) which was very reasonable.
LIVE TRAVEL ASIA (3 months ago)
Yeah we saw that the mini van prices weren't too bad but unfortunately they only had them to popular routes
