nice shoot

yeah what you always find with inexperienced fashion photographers is that they get crazy about locations and lighting and then the model is thrown in like a lump of playdough at the last minute...expressing nothing...her persona and character completely lost under the paraphernalia of whacky photography gimmicks...when you begin to understand you're shooting a human being and start shooting the model and not the lights and background you'll begin to be a better photographer...
Jeff Cloutier (5 months ago)
Exactly. This is all about the lights, not the model. Music lovers don't hum the lights when leaving a concert... it's about the performance. Only photographers dwell on the technology/gear side of an image.

I live not too far from the Bedford.. sadly it's closed down now 😪

I'm curious. The straight out of camera shots look (deliberately) underexposed. What's the rationale behind this? Obviously, the final pics look fantastic, so there must be a method to the madness. If I did that with my camera, it would result in too much noise....
Cristina Simaika (1 year ago)
simianinc about the noise, my guess is he checks to see if the photos are inside the histogram even though he has shifted the exposure + has a camera with more capability to get to higher iso with less light + use "capture one" to process the raws. About the reason to underexposed, I guess is to get a stronger effect from the gels? I am also curious on this one! Although I also have the feeling that is harder to recovery info from a photo overexposed than underexposed, so he can do that because his camera is better to handle the ISO and by underexposing than he has more room to edit. Guessing...

nickyonline12 (3 years ago)
What setup/ effect did you use to shoot yourself? Really nice colour grading!
Jorge Solorzano (3 years ago)
Cool stuff! What's the reason for shooting such a low exposure and bringing it up in post?
Dai Nguyen (3 years ago)
I mean go back to the basic you pump up the lights mean you have to go smaller f-stop to keep the same exposure. Unless your purpose is to overexpose the light to create the different effect, else the shadow and highlights tone will blow out. :D
Jorge Solorzano (3 years ago)
+Dai Nguyen haha all good points, but my question is, when you have the option to turn your lights up and leave all those settings as is, why don't you?
Dai Nguyen (3 years ago)
In this situation, he doesnt want to pump up the iso too high to keep the quality and doesnt want to use the tripod to move around freely so too low shutter speed is not an option. If he picks the Aperture he wants to use for that look pump up the light with more power will make the scene bla bla. So yea thats my theory, its raw afterall half stop or a stop like that doesnt hurt to pump up in post plus the original images look stunning already . Please dont bash me if i m wrong cheers.
Jorge Solorzano (3 years ago)
Is it so that you aren't blowing out the highlights? If that's the case, why not just dim those gel lights?
Mike Poole (3 years ago)
Out of curiosity what would a shoot like that cost equipment aside?

You should turn up your hearing aid levels are fine, maybe a lil too loud at times but that's not the point of the video it's to showcase his imagery.

Great video, I just wish you don't pump up the volume of the music: it's not so good especially when speech volume is so low.
