Japan Capsule Hotels! - Budget Solo Travel

1089 ratings | 17593 views
I stayed at 3 different types of capsule hotels in Japan. A small, medium and large sized capsules. They were all clean, comfy and relatively cheap - Especially if you plan on traveling around Japan solo. Capsule Hotel Astil Dotonbori, Osaka http://bit.ly/2r0ACy7 The Millennials Shibuya, Tokyo http://bit.ly/2KthQbx First Cabin Midosuji Namba, Osaka (First Class Units) http://bit.ly/2zmj4ky First Cabin Karasuma, Kyoto (First Class Units) http://bit.ly/2FE1Cxw ------- FTC: Not Sponsored ------- Music Credits: Mind your Time by Me.So https://soundcloud.com/me_so Creative Commons — Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported — CC BY-SA 3.0 https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ Music provided by Music for Creators https://youtu.be/MdyTZqbuVZE ► For More Awesome Gear ◄ Subscribe - http://bit.ly/1Uzynun Twitter - https://twitter.com/MrDavidZhang Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/mrdavidzhang/ My Video Gear - https://kit.com/davidzhang/my-youtube-video-creator-kit

*The prices!!* Roughly $30, $80, $45 USD respectively for the ones I went to. But day of the week and location (Tokyo is expensive) are a big factor.
meestaShin (15 days ago)
For $45-$80 you can get decent to nice hotel rooms, even in Tokyo.
v1d300 (15 days ago)
Wait so the first class units at Osaka were cheaper than the millennial ones at Shibuya? So first class units in Shibuya would be touching $150 easily.
David Zhang (16 days ago)
No. Specific locations are in the description. The second one was most expensive because it was in Shibuya. The others were in Osaka and Kyoto.
woofinu (16 days ago)
Were all 3 hotels in roughly the same location of Tokyo?

NO! You dont just accept this madness. Saying things that in any why at all condone this anti human insanity is barbaric at best. These aspects of a culture are abhorrent, any notion that its okay to expect a human to put up with less than a large hotel room for travel and 2 acres for a home plot, absolutely, categoricity, must be eradicated from humanity for all eternity. An abhorrent sample here of humanities degradation into acquiescence, a schooling in how anti human capitalism needs a serious redress.

Perfect asian. Haha

your small ain't small, the one I've been was smaller than that. Yours was spacious in comparison.
David Zhang, can you possibly outline how you planned your trip and what you chose to see? I think a lot of your fanbase would like to visit Japan one day, but because it is such a foreign land most of us are not sure of how to tackle planning for it. If you could, maybe in the coming weeks, upload a video detailing the process and what you chose to do, that would be a great help. Thanks :-)

shoutout to the Costco merino wool socks!!!!! feeling so connected right now !!
Bruce Haldane (6 days ago)
Interesting. The one thing I ran out of time to try when I visited. I always worried at 6’3” that my feet would hang out into the hall :-) Didn’t know about the larger room versions, those are cool.
Everyday Tech (6 days ago)
I wouldn't be able to sleep in the smallest because of claustrofobia!

Eagerly awaiting your Japan travel videos!!!

'Coffin room' no thanks. How do you not go nuts in a room that size, that's not normal.
Jack Noonan (10 days ago)
My favourite was Do-c Ebisu... just for the sauna present :P Otherwise, the small capsules are always a bit warm and stuffy, and the bedding is no better.
Aliticx (10 days ago)
Was language a problem for you? Please make more videos about that trip!
Sathya Spettacolo (12 days ago)
So it seems i need to pay more for a decent amount of space in Japan, and will you be uploading any travel vlog in the coming days Zhang ?
nodrogkam (13 days ago)
Thanks for sharing! How'd you find the facilities for restroom/showers etc.?
Michael Nguyen (14 days ago)
Pretty cool and informative.
Kevin Cardoza (14 days ago)
Literally stayed in the first one when I was in Osaka last month. It was actually pretty quiet and I slept well, although it helped that it matched up with jet lag getting the best of me so all I wanted to do was crash. As you said, it was nice but one night was enough.
Classick (14 days ago)
David, I would love to see more footage of your time in Japan.
Upnomad Travel (14 days ago)
Great Review!! Wish I could go to Japan one day! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Robert Reyes Ong (15 days ago)
I've always wanted to try one of these capsule hotels!
Mr_Chukes (15 days ago)
The first hotel looked like your own personal hell.

you so hot
Daniel Stefan Klose (15 days ago)
Did you travel alone?
daniiNL (15 days ago)
Great video and editing, as always ;)!
Great comparison. Thank you.
JesusGreen (15 days ago)
I've always been a fan of small cosy spaces, so I feel like I'd actually especially really like the first two. I think my only complaint would be the curtain doors most of these have. Don't think I'd feel like I had any privacy without the ability to lock a door (and a solid one at that). Still would definitely give one of these a go just for the experience though.
Chris Mays (15 days ago)
David, did all three have a lack of air flow or was it just the first one? Very interesting video.
David Zhang (15 days ago)
Just the first one.
aji yra (15 days ago)
I literally started panicking when he tried to stand up in the small capsule. Omg I would die

XClann (15 days ago)
How are the restrooms for each of these? Are they just regular public restrooms in the lobby, but with a shower etc?
David Zhang (15 days ago)
No. The washrooms/lockers/showers are for Tennants only. Very clean. Private stalls for showers and toilets.
Spud E. Buddy (16 days ago)
I'd love to see your footage from around the city to experience more of what Japan is like. It doesn't all have to be about tech :-)
Kieran Sheldonkelleher (16 days ago)
That looks nice and cozy.

Bigger guy's beware - I was in Japan two years ago and because I'm 225 lbs, I found I had to make sure anyplace I stayed had an actual mattress rather than a 1" futon in some places that felt like I was basically sleeping on a blanket on the floor.
Billy Cheung (16 days ago)
Nice video!
Pyridius (16 days ago)
So the biggest one is only $15 more than the smallest one? That's crazy!
izzythesinner 666 (11 days ago)
Pyridius I think that's due to it's easy accessibility and the many guest these hotels have on a daily basis.
lucio delgado (16 days ago)
Wow! Amazing1 Japan is on my Bucking List.

Hey David this is unrelated to this video, but would you be reviewing the Secretlab chair? https://secretlab.co/collections

How was it...I hope that you can visit Hawaii and go barefoot everywhere I go
Eric Fling (16 days ago)
Why no mention of prices? Even a range, I would have no idea how much any of those would cost.
Eric Fling (16 days ago)
+David Zhang Thanks!
David Zhang (16 days ago)
Sorry forgot about that! About $30, $80, $45 for them.
Suteera Tak (16 days ago)
Great video! I went to Japan multiple times. Love it very much!
backslashio (16 days ago)
1:53 I'm surprised you managed to find something on tv other than talk shows! Every time I turned it on - morning, noon or night it was always talk shows! And then some very rare anime (which was terrible). The larger capsule hotel seems somewhat suitable but I think I preferred my furnished 16sqm Ota (near Tokyo) Airbnb new apartment for ~$40 per night with my own bathroom/kitchen/laundry etc
David Zhang (16 days ago)
Haha. That's sounds like what I would expect on the TV in Japan.
BANA NA (16 days ago)
why you don't mention any price ?
