The Shocking Truth About the Gift of Speaking in Tongues

7658 ratings | 456819 views
Please watch: "What Should I do if My Spouse Refuses to Have Sex with Me?" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J1yMm8DotnA --~-- THE SHOCKING TRUTH ABOUT TONGUES What does the Bible teach about this gift of speaking in tongues? That’s what we are going to talk about today on the BEAT. Hey what’s up everyone my name is Allen Parr and so today we are tackling the touchy subject of speaking in tongues. What is the gift of tongues? What are some misconceptions of tongues? How should it be used in the church? What is the Gift of Tongues? 1) The gift of tongues originally was the supernatural ability to share the gospel in another known dialect without the speaker having previous knowledge of this language (like me speaking Japanese) – Acts 2:1-12 2) Some also believe it is the ability to speak and/or pray in an unknown language. So What are some of the Misconceptions? 1) Everyone can learn to speak in tongues – The Bible teaches that tongues is a spiritual gift. It also teaches that the Holy Spirit is the one who distributes spiritual gifts to believers AS HE WILLS. So just like any other gift you cannot choose your gifts they are given to you. So I don’t how a Christian can learn to speak in tongues any more than they can learn to possess the gift of pastoring of healing or miracles. 2) The second misconception is…People who speak in tongues have more spiritual power than those that don’t – I don’t see anywhere in Scripture where a person who spoke/prayed in tongues was able to accomplish more spiritually than those that didn’t. a. This type of mentality merely divides the church more than it already is into the haves and the have-nots and makes those that don’t have the gift feel inferior. How should this Gift be used in the Church? 1) There must be an interpreter – So if you’re in church and everyone is speaking in tongues Paul says, what if someone who isn’t familiar with the gift or an unbeliever comes in? (Put yourself in their shoes) They will think they’ve just entered into a crazy place. (14:23) So the question is, “Why would you want to take a chance of offending, confusing or turning off an unbeliever from church simply because you feel the need to speak/pray in tongues in church?” Which is why Paul said, “I CAN speak in tongues but IN CHURCH I would rather speak in a language that EVERYONE can understand.” So even Paul said he doesn’t speak in tongues in church unless there is a KNOWN interpreter present. 2) Experience should never contradict Scripture – Sometimes people will say, “well I just felt the Spirit.” Saints, the same Spirit who empowers us to use our gifts is the same Spirit who inspired the writing of the Bible and He cannot contradict Himself by leading you to have an experience in church that goes against the writing of Scripture. Finally, because a Christian’s view on this subject has nothing to do with salvation. It is my prayer that your views and experiences with this will be based on scripture Always remember to be sensitive to unbelievers when in a church… Finally, be careful not to adopt the mentality that people who have the gift are more spiritual or more powerful than those that don’t. I would love to know your experience with this as it relates to the church so please leave your comments below I’d love to hear them. We should be focused more on exemplifying the fruit of the Spirit than we are with the gifts of the Spirit. Hey everyone, I really need to say something that is on my heart. It is after midnight here and this is heavy on my heart. As I am reading some of the comments on this thread it is becoming very clear to me that the enemy is using this topic to further divide the church. We must always remember that his goal is to get us to argue back and forth on these issues that really have nothing to do with our salvation and distract us from what we really should be unified about, which is sharing our faith and encouraging and edifying other believers. Please know that even though I disagree with some of these comments, it doesn't mean that I love each of you any less. Also hope that even though many of you disagree with the stance on this video that you respect me and know that we all love the Lord and we are all fighting against the same enemy. As you comment further, please keep this in mind, and please continue to respect others as you comment on this very controversial issue.Thank you,

+Hashirama Senju Demons and spirits also speak in English. So yes...it's always necessary to test the spirit.

Demons and evil spirits speak in tongues as well...always test the spirit! The very thing you are proud of may actually be the enemy.

+nedaari1 The initial response of the believers was gratitude. My response was not based off one scripture but every conversion account beginning with the Book of Acts. Love and generosity is a attribute for those who are converted.

+Sean Wilson Yes. This happened to me also. Thanks for sharing sir.

+Sean Wilson Interesting...I'm thinking about the man who was saved on the cross, a number of disciples, the church of Corinth...how do you conclude that "every believer is...generous?" Do you mean that God is generous is giving the gifts?

The fruit from the Azusa Street Revival 1906-1913 clearly declare that the God we serve can not be confined and limited to the 66 books of the bible. Is there anything too hard for God?

I really enjoy listening to your teachings, I would like to ask, do you believe that the Azusa Street Revival was the work of God?

Well I’m completely torn on this topic as of right. I’m looking st different arguments in the comments and everyone sounds pretty convincing. I’m trying to read and understand on my own but it’s difficult because I have some health issues to my nervous system and so my focus and comprehension with reading isn’t quite the same as it used to be. It’s seems what makes the most sense to me currently is that the gift to speak in tongues was used to draw unbelievers to the lord in the early church days, because unbelievers usually had hardened hearts and required a sign to be won over. There does seem to be evidence for tongues to be a unique language to God from the individual but it seems that it’s been perverted by many evangelical pastors of the century to be used to show how “holy” you are. In Matthew 6:7 Christ says that when we pray don’t use vain repetitions like the heathens do; because their really doing so to show off and look a certain way. And that’s exactly the vibe I get from many evangelicals who preach and teach that way! Why haven’t they been following what Paul wrote about in 1 Corinth 14 about the church praying in tongues publicly? He clearly wrote that if unbelievers are present in the house of God while all that is going on, we will look crazy & it won’t benefit the unbelievers to carry on that way. The church has been missing out on opportunities to win souls because of foolery that takes place in churches all because folks want to look a certain way and it needs to STOP! Also, Paul writes that even if you are using authentic tongues in public, an interpreter should be present always! So if no body is interpreting, then stick to using your tongues privately between you & God (if you say you have the gift) like it was intended for. And how can it be that anyone can have the gift of tongues (like most evangelicals claim) when 1 Corinth 12:11 says that the Spirit distributes the gifts “as He will”... meaning The Spirit will decide who receives the gifts and who does not, like it says on verses 8-10. Just seems to be way too many folks who claim to speak in tongues and be “spirit filled” but fail to exhibit the fruits of the spirit in their daily lives. I’m just going to do what Christ says at the end of the day: John 6:63 he says ““It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life”. Here he’s saying his very words he speaks are spirit. So if His words are spirit then why not just pray the words that are written in the book? Just pray them, read them, live by them and you count go wrong. People falling out and praying in tongues looking to appear “holy” just seems WAY to close to kundalini, which is false God Hinduism prayer! Look it up if you aren’t familiar with it, it’s just “vain repetition” most of the time which the Bible says is pointless. Who’s right and wrong shouldn’t be a focus; crazy how the enemy can easily turn us against one another by something so unimportant such as this. Living for God, living righteously is what pleases Him and when you do so I believe you will see the fruit of it in your life

Whilst the gift of tongues is an interesting topic, in my opinion, it is more important to be focusing on what really matters to our salvation and the salvation of others. If you have the gift of tongues and can use it to preach the Word of God to people who’s native language is different to yours, then awesome, good on you, but if you can’t use it well, it’s best to focus on the more important things in life.
Tre McCho (4 days ago)
Agree brother. Thank you. The miraculous gifts have for the most part have ceased - why do people no longer heal or raise from the dead, make the blind see, the deaf hear? Why are there still so many hospitals and morgues if all the new church gifts are still for now?...because they were meant for the new church to validate the message before they had the written New Testament as we do. The tongues movement didn’t start until 1900 and before then there were great believers, preachers and revivals without all this idol worship of the supposed tongue speaker. Today this gift along with rock music are idols. The fruit of the spirit is in Galatians, love, joy, peace, etc... When someone actually speaks in a foreign language they did not learn and someone from another country, an unbeliever, understands, as Paul said it was primarily a sign for unbelievers, I would believe that that person has the gift, but otherwise it is all emotion. 1 Corinthians 14, read it all, not just one verse out of context, read where people heard them speak IN THEIR OWN LANGUAGES, and stop putting trust in something other than Jesus Himself and His Word. He did all that was needed and He wants our faith. The filling of the Spirit will produce His fruit and desire for Him and to do His will. If you don’t have a miraculous gift it means nothing as long as you have Christ.

Several young men from my home town know I have a gift when it comes to my tongue 👅 I will never forget Andy Allen curling his toes with pleasure as I used the gift of tongue up and down his shaft, and rolled it around his glans, I then took his whole weapon deep into my throat etc still was able to give lots of little licks before gripping my lips firmly around the beast and plunging up and down on the whole length for several minutes, allowing it to slip into my cavernous deep throat where he did an involuntary twitch each time I removed it from the deepest part of my throat, I went back to using my gift of tongue pressing firmly as his tool became rather frisky as it twitched several times and so I sucked his manhood back, deep into my throat as it exploded with his manjuice, I didn’t gag, I never have and I swallowed every last drop he gave me! Around a decade later whilst working in a fuel station, the aforementioned young man arrived in a car with his buddies. When he saw it was me working there, he smiled and winked and then proceeded to tell everyone on the forecourt that I give good head and have a gift of my tongue 👅 I felt SO proud!

I truly thank God for stumbling on this video today. I always firmly believed that the holy spirit gives and distributes gifts according to his will we can’t ask for gifts thats the whole concept about them being gifts. I was born again in august and as i was reading through the comments above i noticed people talking about a holly spirit baptism something that i have never heard of or seen anywhere in scripture. This being said I don't know much of the bible but one thing i know is i have the holy spirit, the whole journey of even wanting to please God, serve Him and do everything for His glory would never be possible for me or anyone else without the presence or power of the holy spirit in us. SO yes spirit baptism happens to all and anyone who accepts JESUS. Second this past week a dear person asked me if we could have a prayer festival for holy spirit so that i can be energized by Him and start praying in tongues, he made it seem like praying in tongues was an elevation spiritually which i honestly don’t believe coz the bible doesn’t say so. Yesterday i found an online article saying that you can entice and start teaching yourself tongues by repetition of some words or combinations or whatever and eventually it will all start flowing and be natural for you ( this was weird for me but as a new believer i decided to try it out) and my my its a lie and my spirit was heavy even as i was saying these words i felt ridiculous and a fraud(Also i want to say that presence of the spirit and God has nothing to do with our feelings or emotions at the time so probably it was/wasn’t a God driven spirit heaviness but nonetheless i still didn’t feel good about it). i just want to say we don’t have to learn anything that God gives out for free to His people spiritually as gifts. I agree with everything you say because i read the bible and it should be a reference for all our life. OUR GOD IS A GOD OF ORDER AND PEACE HE NEVER CAUSES CONFUSION OR CONTRADICTIONS OR CONTROVERSIES AMONG HIS PEOPLE. And this tongue speaking(one that is not once mentioned in His word) is definitely one of those. bless you

I believe that when someone speaks in tongues without an interpreter around they're communicating with God Himself. My wife does it when she has a movement of the spirit while praying, and that's confirmation for me that she has the spirit, I don't have to know what she's saying, God knows.
Speaking in tongues is bullshit unless there's someone that can interpret it, it's either a bunch of delusional Babel or demonic possession

Hey Parr - I used to agree with you, but 1:08-1:12 is not true. In fact, we can conclude that some church members were speaking and even singing in tongues so much that Paul felt compelled to tell them that it was not edifying to the body, and that they should stop (1 Cor. 14). In any case, we all (you, me,. the bible) agree that it is a gift from God and that it should not be used to segment people.

Maybe we should all focus on not worrying so much about tongues or no tongues and just start praying that God will help us all to stop fighting over every little thing.  I swear social media has such great potential to be a positive force to edify others and give them a word about the Bible some hope from God based on, and backed up by scripture, but instead we let Satan trick us into using it for the purpose of arguing and self justification, my brothers and sisters why should this be so?  It is okay for us to debate, it is ok for us to disagree, it is okay for us to sharpen one another with the word, it is not okay for us to get emotional and start arguing.  That is where the division is, and where it is clearly evident, in our arguing.  has it occurred to all of us that at the point the conversation goes in that direction that we all need to stop and start praying that God will reveal to all of us his perfect will instead of continuing on with our imperfect opinions?  God bless all.  Please let us pray for unity and the peace of A Holy Spirit led mind, for The Lord's people, for the Lord's Church.

Hanz Baznak John 3:3 says, “Except a man be BORN AGAIN, he CANNOT SEE the KINGDOM OF GOD.” John 3:5 says, “Except a man be born of WATER and of the SPIRIT, he CANNOT ENTER the KINGDOM OF GOD.” To go to Heaven, you have to be born again. You have to be born of water. You have to be born of the Spirit. Being born of water is being baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Mark 16:16 says, “He that believeth and is BAPTIZED shall be SAVED.” 1 Peter 3:21 says, “BAPTISM doth also now SAVE US.” Acts 2:38 says, “Be BAPTIZED every one of you in the NAME OF JESUS CHRIST.” Acts 4:12 says, “There is NONE OTHER NAME under heaven given among men WHEREBY WE MUST BE SAVED.” Acts 8:16 says, “They were BAPTIZED in the NAME OF THE LORD JESUS.” Acts 10:48 says, “He commanded them to be BAPTIZED in the NAME OF THE LORD.” Acts 19:5 says, “They were BAPTIZED in the NAME OF THE LORD JESUS.” 1 Corinthians 6:11 says, “But ye are WASHED, but ye are SANCTIFIED, but ye are JUSTIFIED in the NAME OF THE LORD JESUS.” Colossians 3:17 says, “WHATSOEVER YE DO in WORD or DEED, DO ALL in the NAME OF THE LORD JESUS.” Being born of the Spirit receiving the Holy Ghost (the Holy Spirit). Titus 3:5 says, “He SAVED US through the washing of REBIRTH and renewal of THE HOLY SPIRIT.” When you receive the Holy Ghost, He will come inside of you. He will speak through you in languages that you have never learned before. That is what speaking with other tongues is. Acts 2:4 says, “They were all FILLED WITH THE HOLY GHOST, and began to SPEAK WITH OTHER TONGUES, as THE SPIRIT GAVE THEM UTTERANCE.” Acts 10:44-47 says, “THE HOLY GHOST FELL ON ALL THEM which heard the word. And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was POURED OUT THE GIFT OF THE HOLY GHOST. For they heard them SPEAK WITH TONGUES, and magnify God. Then answered Peter, Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have RECEIVED THE HOLY GHOST as well as we? Acts 19:6 says, “THE HOLY GHOST CAME ON THEM; and they SPAKE WITH TONGUES.”

It is just sad that many people treats the Holy Spirit the way Pharisees and scoffers treats Jesus before. How other people thought that those who speak in tongue in Acts 2 are just drunk with wine. Well, there will be some tongues that speaks directly to God and not of men that's why it is not interpreted. Mostly it is worship and musteries. And some tongues also needs to be interpreted. From my experience, it is when you start to desire the Lord that you could actually encounter the Holy Spirit. I pity everyone who have never encountered the Holy Spirit and makes fun of its gift. Hope you will soon feel how wonderful God is.

💌⚓️❌⁉️✔️ It is free and it is for everyone and a person needs time to come to acknowledge personal intimacy with Christ and when they are growing in understanding with Hunger and thirst the living waters will cause springs of living waters to flow out of their belly! Tongues is spirit prayer as your spirit seated in heaven with Christ intercedes. God bless!

My friend...with love and respect,...you are mistaken. Paul said he spoke in tongues more than all of you...and that it is the least of gifts. It is helpful as a personal prayer language.....i pray our Lord might grant you this gift...as he did with my when my mother died. I agree we who have this prayer language have no more closeness to God and are certainly not above anyone. It’s just a different and valid way to pray. I welcome your thoughts

I thought they speak Greek, latin, Hebrew, Aramaic or Egyptian language; only to find that non of them is there on their in tongues. Oh man this stuff is creepy and demonic. All the born-again’s and Pentecostals I’ve known who believe in this have been very creepy and illogical. Speaking in tongues was the ability to PREACH to people in different languages. This has since ended. These modern-day weirdos simply have a demon-possessed seizure and speak nonsense - while thinking they are speaking in tongues. They don’t know that the spirit they feel is Satan disguising himself as an angel of light.

I worked with a girl who went to a charismatic church who believed you couldn’t “get the Holy Ghost” till you spoke in tongues, which I knew to be absolutely scripturally false. I tried to talk to her but they had her convinced. She would come back from services frustrated saying “I almost got the Holy Ghost last night at church.” How heartbreaking & what a false doctrine that this pastor will answer for. On the other hand, I have a dear friend who says she has the gift of tongues and only uses it to pray between her and God & that it’s so edifying to her. So I don’t discount that. I personally have never had the gift but never felt I was missing out.

Austin Brown one question. Explain the thief on the cross. He didn’t have a chance to be Baptized nor did he speak in tongues, yet Jesus told him “Today you will be with Me in paradise.” Because he believed. Acts 16:31 says “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved..” Ephesians 2:8-9 says 8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast. Speaking in tongues is one of the spiritual gifts. Not a requirement for salvation. I’ll have to respectfully disagree with your interpretation of scripture.

+Austin Brown So when I profess with my mouth that Jesus is Lord The Holy Spirit doesn't live within me at that very moment? There is no two separate baptism and baptism doesn't save anyway. Baptism is an outward appearance of what has already happened on the inside. How are you saved? By faith alone through grace alone, lest no man shall boast. This guy is rightly teaching the Authority of scripture above all dominations. The Holy Spirit dwells within me as soon as accept by faith ALONE.

Your horrible "church" makes it's victims into crazy nonsense spewing theological Morons.
hirvi peura (25 days ago)
I (mostly) agree with this video, but maybe you're simplifying it too much, or making things black and white? I've been exploring different churches lately, (trying to find the right one for me and getting to know other christians) and in some of the churches they tend to speak a lot in tongues and do other stuff that I've felt a bit weird about. There are definitely scriptures that talk about speaking in tongues, and apostle Paul clearly stated that he himself also did it and that it is a way to share the gospel and also a way to speak to the Lord, although in a language that you don't understand yourself. And scripture says that it is indeed a sign of having the Holy Spirit, but it also says that not all speak in tongues. What I find odd is speaking in tongues during a church gathering. Cause I feel like people tend to speak in tongues simply just for the pleasure of speaking in tongues, but apostle Paul says that "When you come together, each of you has a hymn, or a word of instruction, a revelation, a tongue or an interpretation. Everything must be done so that the church may be built up." (1. Cor 14:26 NIV). And that is, where I feel like some churches may go wrong, cause yes, they do speak in tongues and they should, BUT it has to be done in order to build up the church. When everyone speaks in tongues just because they can and they like to do it, how does it build up the church? It becomes unnecessary and I don't think it should be done just for the habit of doing it. In that case, five understandable words would probably build up the church more than ten thousand in an unknown language.
Free Man (26 days ago)
3:14 Why would you need the gift of interpretation of speaking in tongues if it was only to share the gospel with someone of a different language? The best definition we have for tongues is 1 Corinthians 14:2 For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him; however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries. So is it more likely those in Acts where given the gift of interpretation, because that is more consistent with many other scriptures that talk about the gift of interpretation of tongues.

The same scriptures I've read and understood as you, my friend. 1 Corinthians 12 King James Version (KJV) 12 Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant. 2 Ye know that ye were Gentiles, carried away unto these dumb idols, even as ye were led. 3 Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost. 4 Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. 5 And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord. 6 And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all. 7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal. 8 For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; 9 To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; 10 To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues: 11 But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will. 12 For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ. 13 For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit. 14 For the body is not one member, but many. 15 If the foot shall say, Because I am not the hand, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body? 16 And if the ear shall say, Because I am not the eye, I am not of the body; is it therefore not of the body? 17 If the whole body were an eye, where were the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where were the smelling? 18 But now hath God set the members every one of them in the body, as it hath pleased him. 19 And if they were all one member, where were the body? 20 But now are they many members, yet but one body. 21 And the eye cannot say unto the hand, I have no need of thee: nor again the head to the feet, I have no need of you. 22 Nay, much more those members of the body, which seem to be more feeble, are necessary: 23 And those members of the body, which we think to be less honourable, upon these we bestow more abundant honour; and our uncomely parts have more abundant comeliness. 24 For our comely parts have no need: but God hath tempered the body together, having given more abundant honour to that part which lacked. 25 That there should be no schism in the body; but that the members should have the same care one for another. 26 And whether one member suffer, all the members suffer with it; or one member be honoured, all the members rejoice with it. 27 Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular. 28 And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues. 29 Are all apostles? are all prophets? are all teachers? are all workers of miracles? 30 Have all the gifts of healing? do all speak with tongues? do all interpret? 31 But covet earnestly the best gifts: and yet shew I unto you a more excellent way.

tongue in earthly terms converts spirit to brain waves to send out in sound in melodic fashion , in begining first tongue tends to be burst almost as if they giving birth may be rigid n rough but eventually leads to melodic fashion in speakers own melody . theme of group speaking in tongue or group praying shut down left n right sides of brain, empty thought and adapt in holy divine togetherness . never a selfish Transmutation god will dim up on it . coming off crazy to people are just infected heavily but this world, just like when new comers go to church or even a meditation center a lot of times they creeped out thinking its a suicide cult, we could say its negative forces leading em astray or w/e you want. its the tenacity of pushing past that initial discomfort . new job, first date with wife, 1st sporting event , etc all these things have they inital discomfort one pushes past etc. interpreting tongue feeling out what caster is saying and grabbing closest verse they know that resonates with what the caster has said . nice video

My dad can actually speak in tongues and he told me a story of how his experience in a church got him there. He was prayed for heavily by multiple leaders when first attending (and he wasnt exactly there for God but for girls 😂) and it happened at a random moment in a church service he attended a few weeks after that. He did it in front of me and it sounded like some middle-eastern language. We’re American-born Hispanics. In now way do we have any experience with languages in that part of the world. But what I have heard from overhearing people of that descent talking amongst each other and across other forms of media, the dialect sounded like it was rooted from there.

All of us need to learn how to operate through faith, the gifts that God gives us, and that includes speaking in tongues. This is something we need to learn how to do. Let's remember that nobody can speak in tongues (see Acts 2:4) by natural, human ability alone. Christians learn to do things in the spiritual realm, by the leading of the Holy Spirit, and not by natural human ability alone.
Ray Brensike (23 days ago)
Beware of deception. I'm at 1:08 into this. If somebody contradicts the Bible, you don't have to listen to them. In Acts chapter 2 those who spoke in tongues were speaking in unknown languages. How do I know that? Because that is what speaking in tongues is. Nowhere in the Bible or in the history of mankind, has anyone spoken in tongues, where the result was that they spoke in their own known language. (by "speaking in tongues" here, I'm talking about the manifestation of the Holy Spirit, called speaking in tongues, which is talked about in the Bible, in Acts, and in I Corinthians 12-14) Always, 100% of the time, without exception, speaking in tongues will always result is a person speaking in a language they do not know. This makes it an unknown language to them, and that is always, without exception will be what speaking in tongues is. However, this does not mean that there will not be anybody anywhere who can understand it, for God always understands it. To him these tongues are not unknown languages, but to us who speak in tongues, it will always result in us speaking in a language we do not know. It is therefore unknown to us. It might be that some other person around us, might understand the language, but that is usually a very rare thing. What is the norm, the usual, the common, is that nobody (no other person in the flesh) will understand what we are saying when we speak in tongues. They will be just as ignorant as to the meaning of it, as we are who speak in tongues, which is why we see the need for another manifestation of the Holy Spirit, which is interpretation of tongues. If we are in a meeting and we are called upon to speak in tongues and interpret, we should pray (believe) that God will give us an utterance, (what to say) in our known language, which should also be the language of the majority of the people present, which will be the gist of what we have just spoken in a tongue. God does this by inspiration of the Holy Spirit, teaching us, and giving us what to speak. If we have it, we may give it, and it should be a message of edification by way of exhortation and comfort for the building up of ourselves in our faith, by the words the Holy Spirit teaches.

How about you deal with 1st Corinthians 14:2... noticing in that passage if you will sir to whom the tongue-speaking is directed... I guess God needed to be evangelized.
You don't have to speak in tongues,You get to speak in tongues,Paul said he speaks in tongues more than you all talking to the Corinthian church [1 Cor 14:18-19]] and he did say he had rather speak five words with his understanding than 10,000 words in an Unknown tongue,And that's why I have never spoken in tongues in a church service,But Paul goes on to say forbid not to speak in tongues [1 Cor 14:39] and I believe after salvation,Nothing can separate you from the love of God,which is in Christ Jesus [Romans 8:39] But I also believe there is a second encounter with God after salvation according to [Acts 8:16-17] & [19:2-7] John the Baptist is the only man that was filled with the Holy Spirit while he was still in his Mother's womb [Luke 1:15] And Jesus who was born Lord did no miracles or mighty works until He was filled with the Holy Spirit when John the baptist who already had the Holy Spirit. Some Christians just get saved & stuck and their salvation is complete,But I want everything God has to offer.God Bless.

I think it would be incredible if someone I knew who was only monolingual stood up and started speaking in German, or Japanese, followed by someone else interpreting what was being said for the rest of us to understand it. I don’t think I’ve ever seen that happen - not even on a YouTube video. Alas, what is being uttered is not a real language, so there is no one to interpret. Under such circumstances, the Bible prohibits any such utterance. I’m voting that, either way, we follow the Bible’s prescriptions.

Just as an interpreter needs to be present when the Holy Spirit uses to tongues to address the congregation, we need ministers who are trained in the use of the gifts of the Spirit to rightly divide the Word. In I Corinthians 14 Paul says that if someone is speaking in tongues and there is not an interpreter present then for that person to continue to speak to God. As a minister we have no right to try and control how a person prays. So if I am speaking in tongues according to I Corinthians 14 I am speaking to God, not to the congregation. You also misquoted Paul as though he was passively saying, “I’m glad I have the ability to speak in tongues...” that isn’t what Paul said. Paul said, “I thank God that I speak in tongues more than all of you...” obviously we need to bring the entire verse into context, but not to the point of excusing the truth that Paul gave. Not only did he speak in tongues regularly, but in his own opinion he did so more often than the Corinthian Church. Finally, whereas you will not find one verse that says tongues are not meant for prayer - you will actually find at the end of I Corinthians 14, “forbid not to speak in tongues...”

You claim that there is no example of praying in an unkownn language in the Bible yet 1 Corinthians 14:2 states "For one who speaks in a tongue speaks not to men but to God; for no one understands him, but he utters mysteries in the Spirit. " I have never spoken in tongues myself and am skeptical of many that do, but how can you make the claim you made and quote scripture all around this verse and just ignore this. I am trying to come to conclusions on this subject and you led me astray for about 10 minutes until I saw someone quote this chapter. Please be more careful with your claims.

Speaking in tongues is just a language not gibberish. Act 2: 1-18 especially verses 8,9,10, 11. The miracle here is that the people heard their own language all at the same time. Verse 6. That’s it.

2:30 why would you need an interpreter if tongues is used for preaching the gospel to people in their own languages? The issue is many get the gift of tongues and the cloven tongues (found in acts 2) mixed up, even on that day it wasn't used for understanding but as a sign so they would listen.
J.M.Kirkham (1 month ago)
1 Corinthians 14:14 'For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful.' If tongues is just for the proclamation of the gospel then why is it used for prayer and not just him praying yet his spirit praying?

I go to a wonderful church that is filled with the Holy Spirit but they equate the Holy Spirit and speaking in tongues to be the same thing. When I read scripture I don't see it to be the same thing because they are referenced differently at different points and then sometimes they are intertwined. They focus sometimes on speaking in tongue when I don't have the gift and because I come from a Baptist background I'm not stuck on it so when they do get stuck on it, it can be a little annoying. I've been taken into a room twice to speak in tongues but I believe that it's something that can be done naturally and not for the ears and eyes of others. I'm still working on it and if the scripture say that we can have it then you know why not but they kind of get caught up on it.

Quick question, unrelated but relevant to the receipt of the Holy Ghost. How do you reconcile Acts 8:14-17 Where the Holy Ghost was received after the acceptance of the Lord Jesus. Do you receive the Spirit at the time of ones confession of Christ or is it a separate event?

It is very important that we know the truth because it does set us free and we are God's instruments and teachers. We teach each other through relationship. The enemy definitely wants to divide Christ's church because he knows that when we come into unity and harmony we will finally be stepping into the role of Kings and Priests that Jesus victorious departure established with His new covenant. I have struggled with an inferiority complex but I take responsibility for that as well, I've had friends who felt spiritually inferior to me when I have shared some intimate moments with my Lord with them. Is that my issue or theirs and should I not share because they have an issue? That's not fair. It breaks my heart seeing people not experiencing God's love. We need to take responsibility for our emotions and examine where they come from and expel anything less than the fruit of the Spirit from our lives. I still feel uncomfortable praying in tongues in the congregation where I live but its not going to stop me from praying constantly in the Spirit outside its walls because I have experienced the freedom it brings. (For if you have the ability to speak in tongues, you will be talking only to God, since people won’t be able to understand you. You will be speaking by the power of the Spirit, but it will all be mysterious. 1 Cor 14:2) It's interesting to me that everyone present in Acts 2 uttered another language. God always has a good reason for the actions he performs. May you be blessed with His Love and Power.

What Does the Bible Teach About Speaking in Tongues “Speaking in tongues” refers to a miraculous ability some early Christians had that enabled them to speak a language without first having learned it. (Acts 10:46, New International Version) The speaker was easily understood by anyone who knew that language. (Acts 2:4-8) Speaking in tongues was one of the gifts of the holy spirit that God gave to some first-century Christians.—Hebrews 2:4; 1 Corinthians 12:4, 30. Where and when did speaking in tongues start? This miracle first occurred in Jerusalem on the morning of the Jewish Festival of Pentecost in 33 C.E. About 120 of Jesus’ disciples were meeting together when “they all became filled with holy spirit and started to speak in different languages.” (Acts 1:15; 2:1-4) A large crowd of people “from every nation under heaven” gathered, and “each one heard them speaking in his own language.”—Acts 2:5, 6. What was the purpose of speaking in tongues? To show that God was backing Christians. In the past, God provided miraculous signs to prove that he was backing faithful people such as Moses. (Exodus 4:1-9, 29-31; Numbers 17:10) Speaking in tongues served a similar purpose, showing that God was backing the newly formed Christian congregation. The apostle Paul wrote: “Tongues are not a sign for the believers but for the unbelievers.”—1 Corinthians 14:22. To enable Christians to give a thorough witness. Those who heard Jesus’ followers on the day of Pentecost said: “We hear them speaking in our languages about the magnificent things of God.” (Acts 2:11) Thus, another key purpose of this miracle was to enable Christians “to give a thorough witness” and to “make disciples of people of all the nations,” as they had been commanded by Jesus. (Acts 10:42; Matthew 28:19) About 3,000 who observed the miracle and listened to the witness that was given became disciples that very day.—Acts 2:41.Was speaking in tongues to continue permanently? No. The gifts of the holy spirit, including that of speaking in tongues, were a temporary provision. The Bible foretold: “If there are gifts of prophecy, they will be done away with; if there are tongues, they will cease.”—1 Corinthians 13:8. When did speaking in tongues cease? The gifts of the holy spirit were generally passed on to other Christians in the presence of the apostles, usually by the apostles placing their hands on fellow believers. (Acts 8:18; 10:44-46) It appears that those who received the gifts of the spirit from the apostles did not transfer them to others. (Acts 8:5-7, 14-17) To illustrate, a government official may issue a driver’s license to someone, but that person is not given the legal authority to issue a license to anyone else. Apparently, speaking in tongues ended with the death of the apostles and those who had personally received the gift from them. What about speaking in tongues today? The miraculous gift of speaking in tongues evidently ended about the end of the first century C.E. No one today can rightly claim to speak in tongues by God’s power. How can true Christians be identified? Jesus said that self-sacrificing love would identify his disciples. (John 13:34, 35) Likewise, the apostle Paul taught that love would be a permanent identifier of genuine Christians. (1 Corinthians 13:1, 8) He indicated that God’s spirit would produce in Christians the qualities referred to collectively as “the fruitage of the spirit,” the first quality of which is love.—Galatians 5:22, 23. By the way, Jesus set the record very plainly as to HOW and to WHOM to pray, and he wasn't it, and nor were tongues even mentioned. Mathew 9-13. Please, people READ your bibles!

Another fine sounding argument col. 2:4 1) it's not you who speak, but the Spirit speaking through you. So no it's not a matter of learning, but allowing God's word to for through you and speak to you. Ro. 8:26 2) it is not you who heals, perform miracles, etc., but the Spirit of God and Christ in you which enables the ability. Even Jesus said the works I do, they will do also. John 14:1-14 but pay particular interest to 10-11 the Father is in me doing HIS WORK, THEY WILL DO... EVEN GREATER! Well... Though I can go on it's late here, I pray this sets those open for it in the right path! We are still in the new covenant and since that was implemented with Christ blood no one can change anything in it. And it won't end until HIS RETURN No matter how well articulated the argument. For the KINGDOM OF GOD IS NOT SHOT TALK, BUT POWER. 1COR. 4:20 Good bless all

"Speaking" in tongues and "praying" in tongues is two different things. "Speaking in tongues" is for the edification of the church because it's either an Earthly tongue that can be translated or a spiritual tongue that can be interpreted by someone with the gift of interpretation. However, "praying in tongues" is a language between your personal Spirit and God used during prayer that cannot be interpreted or translated by anyone. Not even you. This video explains it better https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eKB0wjVrvFM

Speaking in tongues was a stumbling block for me when I was a younger unbeliever. It seemed fake to me, and the superficial way the gift was treated in certain churches made it seem even MORE fake. I guess that's what Paul was talking about when he said not to speak in tongues around unbelievers.

🙏🙌🌈☄️wrong.. wrong wrong!🙏🙌praying.. this video is partially incorrect, this man has some pride in him to cause/prove something which is leading him too lean on Too a certain side / direction on his perspective of Tongues 1 Corinthians 14:14 For if I pray in tongues, my spirit is praying, but I don't understand what I am saying. 1 Corinthians 14:26 Tongues are a sign than for unbelievers 1 Corinthians 14:2 2For anyone who speaks in a tongue a does not speak to people but to God. Indeed, no one understands them; they utter mysteries by the Spirit 1 Corinthians 13:1-2 1If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 2If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. speaking in 'tongues' of men and of angels implies from the Apostles words that they are a Variety of different kinds of tongues and gifts of the spirit that help edify yourself and the Church/Aka interpretation / language Gospel sharing lots of more verses Too be shared as well..just very Tired of long Day @ work...God bless I've read and re-read holy Scripture and also have gift of tongues for 12+ Years walking with the Lord Thru endless Firey Trials, James 1:2, this shouldn't be a question in the Christian Church scripture is very clear about/upon the Topic if you compare Scripture with Scripture🙏🙌 Pray Ask God 1 John Ch.1-5 ask God for clarity, True Christians (tongue or no tongue) that walk close with Christ will/can easily See the clarity behind all Things revealed by God Deuteronomy 29:29 Fear God🔥 shun Evil may the Lord bless 🙏🙌⚡️🌈 last snidbit of Unique wisdom: Apostle paul Spoke in Tongues more than anyone---absolutely necessary for missionaries as verbal prayer can become very draining too the Frontal lobes of the Brain💆thus causing stress, thus can be a deterrent Too happy humble missionary work as we always ought Too/strive To be Philippians 4:4 - rejoice in the Lord always, again i will Say , Rejoice! ❤️🙏🙌

Speaking in tounges in the Bible has one use only and that is speaking in unknown real language. It’s not speaking gibberish it’s speaking a real language that was unknown to the believer before the spirit gave it to them. The word tounges in the Bible means languages not gibberish but a real language. It was so the believers could speak the gospel To other people from different nations and languages it was never ever gibberish that u spit out of your mouth. That gibberish that people be doing is a lie and it’s nowhere in the Bible not one example of someone speaking gibberish. The gift was always a real language

Good video. But I have some contrary views: 1. You said "speaking in tongues is a gift of the Holy Spirit". True it is a gift of the Holy Spirit - given to certain people specially, but it is also a general manifestation (to all Believers). Just as "faith" is a general manifestation for all Believers, there is also the special gift of faith. Every Believer COULD speak in tongues, but some Believers (that have the special gift of tongues) would speak more and better. 2. You also said there are no scriptural evidences for "speaking in unknown language". But Apostle Paul said "though I speak with tongues of men AND OF ANGELS..." Don't you think he is referring to tongues of angelic language unknown to men? That people abuse spiritual things does not mean they are all fake. I strongly believe tongues could also involve angelic language unknown to men. Of course there would certainly be a language of communication in Heaven that would not be our earthly languages. How about that?
