The Glide style for the Shot put is arguably easier in technical terms, but is not necessarily easier to execute. The Glide shot put must be set up properly for maximum power generation. In this video Coach Johnson shows an Arete Throws Nation Thrower how to set up the Throwing Chain Reaction in the glide for better results.

Looks like he has some balance problems when on one leg. I have a guy like that. Literally almost falls over when in back of ring. (He is 6'9" though) I have been working on things like one legged dead lifts and single legged work like lunges, single legged box work etc. Does that make sense?
I agree. The dynamic routine and core work has improved his psorue significantly. He had a significant Anterior pelvic tilt. That has gotten much better. The better posture will leand to better athleticism. He's improved 9 feet so far with his glide. He's up about 5 feet from the time of this video. He's a first year glider and so we didnt want to have rhythm conflicts. We've improved the strength issues a lot, hence the improvement. he likes the glide and its getting better technically with the better balance of strength. and 200K will be a long way off.. Lol. i don't have that many gliders, but rotational aptitude wasn't there at first so glide was the best path for him.. i think he can be a 60'+ glider next season. Thanks for commenting

Arete Throws Nation TV Hey Eric - the dynamic w/u routine and core strengthening(POSTERIOR CHAIN) are generally enough to correct 'balance issues' in the young kids, just a matter of athleticism. May be an issue with the degree of positive angle he's getting w the left too...much less w the glide, not like us rotators when trying to get the tib friggin parallel to the ground, getting off that left early to create serious whip; hope he plans on being a 200kg snatcher if he's going to keep gliding.
David Lingner nope! Just the everyday warm-up drills, Dave...dynamic warm-up routine. Trained with Vik Gowda a few yrs back, he was a glider when he threw shot, too. It's not 'balance' per se....just athleticism
